autotune and other useful features missed on genie

I just upgraded to genie.....not a pleasure.  Alot of changes.  Trying to de-select which channels I don't wish to scroll threw took an hour for each box...slow response.  Cannot scroll channels a page at a time. Slow up down on each channel.  And, yes, my old boxes autotuned.  I want each station to pop up when it is on.  A feature I used everyday ....  Recording is fine, but I don't need to record all the time, I want auto tunning to station at appropriate time.  I do hope some of these wonderful features we use to have come back.  No need to respond.  Voicing what we want.

I am aware of what is on the upgrade.  I had two old boxes...connected through red white and yellow.  Those boxes had the features I am talking about.  Since I just got the mandatory upgrade to genie today, I am well aware of what I no longer have ..... As in my beginning of time boxes that were bought at the big box stores, these features were on those boxes.  Sorry you are a new comer and are not aware that the originals are still with DirecTV.  They were boxes with cards, not DVRs.  Again, I am an original DirecTV customer.  No need to respond.

No DTV DVR has ever had auto tune not just the Genie line so there is nothing to bring back.  Back before DTV had DVRs they added auto tune so people with VCRs (VHS/BETAMAX) could record their programs, then they partnered with TiVo to use their recorders with an IR blaster to change the DTV receivers channels so auto tune was no longer needed.  That partnership ended so DTV had to come up with their own DVRs.

DirecTV 1994 began.  Boxes had red white and yellow.  Cards were in the back and faced the wall which were transitioned to the front behind a drop down door.  They were not DVRs.  Simply a box to bring satellite to your TV.  I have never had a directv dvr.  This "niche" feature as you speak of was standard and on all boxes as well as the other features obviously until the DVR. Go back and re-read as you missed the whole point to the comment. You have turned a comment into your platform to rant.  Do your research before you rant, and continue if you choose to do so in a post that you and a few others will see.  Let me ruffle your feathers further by stating there were no commercials....the gimmick in the beginning was pay for your TV channels -  no commercials.  DirecTV has come a long way.  Take the comment for what it was and rethink as maybe it is you trying to sound knowledgeable as there was no need for you to rant. Try to have a nice day in your niche world.
