Any way to disable button on a remote unit

My elderly mother lives with us and has her own TV with a genie receiver. So far, on three separate occasions, all my recorded programs have been erased. A check on the recording manager showed the programs were erased from her genie and not some issue with the DVR in the main unit. Wondering if the list or red delete button can be disabled on a individual remote control. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I had to slice some buttons off with a razor blade on my grandmothers remote. I did the input and the mute as she was constantly messing it up.

@Constructive  That was my first thought and I don't even have DirecTV or know what the remote looks like.

Sometimes it's just easier to eliminate the problem, ie: cut it off!

the buttons are rubber so its real easy, and with directv remotes being 7 bucks at most box stores its a win win

You can set up your system so that programs can only be deleted from the main Genie receiver - Menu > Settings> whole home > share playlist  —- allow deletion  from  - limit to this receiver only

You can't do this for mini clients.

If he sets the Main receiver to not allow deletions from other devices his mother will not be able to delete his programs from her mini - which is the way I read it.  If the main is in her room my suggestion would be to move it, put the mini in her room. One way or another it will work

No, you can't limit it from the clients. They share the same playlist as the main server.a

I am not telling him to limit it from the clients - if he limits deletion to only the Main receiver - and the main receiver is not in his mother’s room she will not be able to delete programs from her room.

fxinxs -  sorry you are wrong. It does not matther where you put the boxes you can't have the genie not allowing deletes and the mini clients allowing deletes or vice versa. They are all part of the same system.

I have a small philips screwdriver (need to remove two philips screws after removing the battery cover) and prying fingernails, opened up the remote (did surgery literally) and put an appropriate-size cellophane tape on the electronic PCB (the board under the buttons). I covered two buttons, the one with the R and the red dot buttons. Problem solved! My aunt is happy! Everything works in the remote except for those two pesky buttons after. She does not need them and is complaining that the DVR keeps on recording unintentionally (but admittedly she presses on them by mistake, or she sleeps on the remote occasionally).
