alexa interface to genie H44-500 receiver
I've tried several alexa-compatible universal remotes, and nothing seems to pair adequately with the Genie H44-500 receiver I have. The receiver isn't on the pairing list for the remote, and attempting to program the device using my RC73 remote fails on more than half the buttons, including critical ones like volume up and down. I don't want to get a different receiver because that will mean being on a new DirecTV plan. Has anyone had more success pairing the Genie with a universal remote? What I'm trying to achieve here is voice control, so any effective voice remote will be a acceptable solution for me.

DTV no longer supports Alexa, you need Google.

All DTV remotes are preprogrammed to control all DTV receivers in IR mode. To use RF you have to use an RC7X remote as the H44 has a different RF protocol that the RC6X remotes don't have. Pressing and holding mute and enter at the same time should bring up the message " Receiver is in RF mode then continue to add the TV.

@shannon02 What I was trying to do was replace the RC73 remote with a wifi universal remote controlled via Alexa. Thanks for the information about the RF protocol. I'll give that a try!

Don't think there are any RF remotes that work with DTV other than the RC7X. IR may work if there is line of sight with a hub system that has the DTV IR codes.

Until the C71WK came out DTV didn't have any voice controlled remotes.
