Alexa and Genie DVR

Got a message that as of 10/17 Alexa voice will be removed from Direct TV Genie HD DVRs.  Does anyone know why this is being done?  I have found it useful to use Alexa voice in the past to do such things as change my Genie channel.

I have Alexa device and that is how I communicate with the Genie to change channels, for example.  My posting deals with the message I received on the Genie saying as of 10/17 Alexa voice will be removed from Direct TV Genie HD DVRs.  Please address the rationale behind the message.

I still don't understand the purpose of Direct TV sending out a message that as of 10/17 Alexa voice will be removed from Direct TV Genie HD DVRs.  If Alexa is not a feature offered by Direct TV, as you state, explain to me why a message stating a service that isn't offered by Direct TV is being removed by Direct TV.  What am I missing?

I'm with you there, @Wannabe32. I apologize for the confusion. May I have a picture of that message so that I can forward it to our team and have them review and look into it? Responded to you PM but didn't receive a response for over 30 minutes.  Not very good customer service!

Can we please this public and not in PMs?  I got the same notification and need the voice support due to disabilities.

I received the same message. If I read it correctly it says the voice feature  will be removed from Alexa devices and DTV Genie HD DVR.

I see no confusion in the message.

Clearly there are some DVR's that have the interface to allow Alexa control.

You do not need the Alexa APP to be installed in a device to RESPOND to Alexa. I think there's some confusion with people guessing, especially the first "official" response saying DTV did not send the message!!!!! Sorry but does not instill confidence in answers!!!

Don't see how they can remove it from a Alexa device.

As I understand it, DTV provides the Alexa skill that allows Alexa voice control of the DTV Genie.  I read the DTV message to mean that DTV is removing/disabling the skill.
