Adding another box to my service.

I want to add another box to my service in a garage or another dwelling that is about 100 feet away from my house.  It’s the same address but a different building all in a remote location with no cellular service. What would be involved to get this done? Would the other dwelling need a separate dish or can we just run a wire from the dish to the additional box?

You can either install an additional dish on the other dwelling or run a coaxial wire from the current dish to the dwelling. Additionally, if the distance of the dwelling is less than 80ft from the current directv installation and you are utilizing a Genie receiver, you may purchase a wireless Genie client to use wirelessly with the use of a Wireless Video Bridge. This wireless Genie client will be in the dwelling and won’t need a coaxial connection since it connects wirelessly to a Video Bridge connected in the house.

Thank you for your input, @detuch254. @Dpb1066,  DIRECTV satellite is built as one service per address, not unless you have a Multi-Dwelling Unit (MDU), which has a special setup. Since the garage is 100 feet away from the house, you will need to install a new dish and a separate primary box. Mohammad, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Installing a separate dish with a dedicated receiver (H or HR) would be my choice. This would be DIY or through a 3rd party Authorized Retailer, at your own cost.

Running coax to the building only if you have some way to protect it. Wireless Client is up to 80 ft under ideal conditions, so at about 100 you are past the limit.

What are the models of each box you have now? That may have a little effect on your options.

Direct tv help. Would the new dish and the separate primary box be a separate service or can it just be added to the service that I already have in the house?

Good question, @Dpb1066! Yes, it needs to be registered as a separate service. We'd love to help you get a new one, here are the current packages we have for you: https://www.directv.com/ Ryan, DIRECTV Community Specialist

@DIRECTVhelp @Dpb1066

Ryan check the info again as this is not for a separate address.

It does NOT need to be a separate service IF it is the same residential address. This is common for detached garages and the like. So it would count just as an additional TV for the monthly cost which is just $7. It wouldn't share recordings with the other boxes since it would not be on the same cabling.

Ideally you would call DirecTV for an additional HDDVR (no Client) and put a note on the order that this will need a separate dish because of the 2nd building. Expect for cost to tech as beyond the order built (at least $99 for dish as I recall), unless their current system can select all that up front now. If you don't qualify for a free upgrade, or have to go the 3rd party/DIY route, the one-time lease cost of an HDDVR is $199.
