Can I connect a 4K TV to my old directv receiver?

Connect, yes... see in 4k, then depends, but very few of the old ones, maybe none will show 4k.
The experts here will know, but why not help and give the model number of your receiver?
(It's sort of like saying will my old car go 100mph with no other data)

What Receiver model? As long as it has HDMI output, you're good to go.

Yes you can connect it. You just will not receive 4K of course.
So connect by HDMI same way as the old TV. If your DirecTV box doesn't have an HDMI port, then you will need to replace it as DirecTV has been dropping support of SD-only boxes and service.

Plug your HR24 into your 4K TV like any other HDMI device.
Change your TV's input accordingly (HDMI-1, HDMI-2, etc.).
You will get your channels, just not in 4K.
Since you have asked and have been answered multiple times, please let us know what about this is not making sense for you.
