4k on Roku

I use the DirecTV app on a Roku that I have that is 4k and hooked to a 4k TV.  My question is should I be able to stream the 4k channels on this system if I don't have one of the 4k genie clients on my account? It says I need to subscribe but can't find where when I sign into my account to sub to just 4k channels.

Thanks

No. You would need to switch to DirecTV Stream service. Or add a 4K Mini Genie box to your satellite setup (assuming you have an HR54 or HS17 Genie DVR/Server).

Hi, @blimes. To enjoy 4K resolution on your Roku device, you can consider switching to DIRECTV STREAM. On the other hand, if you prefer to watch 4K content on your DIRECTV Satellite account, you can add a Genie Server or DIRECTV 4K Genie Mini to your setup. Thanks for choosing DIRECTV. So, why do we need a Genie if we are streaming on a Roku App? This makes no sense.

I have the Roku 4K and it won’t allow me to access the 4K channels 104,105 and 106. I called DTV and they told me I have to upgrade my receiver in order to access them. I don’t understand what my receiver has to do with streaming 4K content via the internet. I have called several times and get the same response. Makes zero sense.

DTV sat service requires an HR54 or an HS17Genie2 and a 4K mini to add 4K service to the account. Streaming is a perk.

Under the DirecTV 4K FAQ it differs from your response.

Nowhere does it state that 4K needs a certain receiver. And in fact, it states it’s available at no extra cost for Satellite and Streaming customers.

Yes, it is free but to add it requires the proper equipment for DTV sat service.

It depends. If you're a subscriber to any base package on DIRECTV via internet or DIRECTV STREAM, you’ll have access to 4K content when you use a 4K-compatible device and system setup—no activation required.

DIRECTV via satellite customers do need to have 4K enabled for their accounts. Those who do so can also stream 4K programming at no extra cost.

And once again we are back to… what does a Roku device and streaming have to do with my Satellite receiver? It’s not even in the equation.

Never answering this question.

Enough said. No reply needed.

The DTV app will not stream the 4K channels to anything until 4K service is enabled if you have a sat system.
