4k + Gemini + HR44

If I replace a Genie client with a Gemini, would I gain access to Directv’s 4K channels on the TV that uses the Gemini? I have HR44 on main TV and a non-4K Genie client on second TV. I do not care which of the TVs gets 4K.

(I realize I would have to ask for 4K to be authorized but would I also need to swap to another Genie model too?)

Nope, the HR44 can't get the 4K channels.  You need an HR54 or HS17 for that.  The Gemini can stream 4K content from the internet.

If you decide to do a 4K upgrade getting the 3rd generation Genie (HR54) or the Genie-2 (HS17, not my preference), with either the 4K Mini Genie (C61K) or Gemini (C71KW), make sure you are caught up on recordings first as they do not copy over.

The 4K TV must support HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2, and 60 FPS. Plus it must be there when tech does the install. Also be aware there is limited 4K content through the satellite feed as networks and content providers are still catching up on making things in 4K to begin with (as opposed to just upscalling non-4K content).

Thanks. My TVs are Rokus so I’ll stick with the minis. No real advantage to the Gemini for me at this time. Appreciate the info.

I wish regular HDDVRs were still commonly available. Dedicated 2 tuners, recording space, and reliability so I don't have to worry about a Client that is dependent on another box.

Unless the amount of 4K content available is a great desire for you, I would keep the setup the way it is now. Hold onto your free upgrade for when you get more value out of it.
