4k connectivity

I just bought an Amazon Fire 4k43N400A LCD TV. I have a DTV HR54-200 connected to it but when I try to access channel 105 4k it says the location is not compatible. Whats the fix since the TV is 4K.

The HR54 can't output 4K none of the Genie's can, you need a C61K mini client that is wired only or the C71WK mini client connected to the 4K TV.

The only 4K boxes are the Mini Genie (C61K) or new Gemini (C71KW).

HR54 cannot output 4K itself as was too far into production when the requirements for 4K increased.

Though the HR54 can use up to 3 Clients at one time, it can only allocate a single TV using a 4K channel.

To get 4K, DirecTV should have done a 4K upgrade (as 4K models should never be provided if you don't have a 4K TV). This required tech install to verify all compatible (HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2, 60 FPS,), enable 4K on the account (no charge but has to be toggled on), and verify 4K channel actually works. Buying a 4K TV doesn't toggle on 4K service. As long as you had 4K service turned on, compatible equipment set correctly (make sure plugged into the 4K specific port as usually only one of the HDMI ports on the TV is set for it), then yes it should work.

The comment that the 4k can only access one TV at a time is what I have always believed, but, today while watching the Indy 500 on one TV I tried to do that on a second TV at the same time and it worked fine. Wow!

The HR54 only allocates a single tuner to a 4K channel. That was an unfortunate limitation. Though now they do allow one to co-locate a 4K Client with the HR54 so you don't have to pay for a 2nd authorized TV if you are a single TV household.

If you were on a dedicated 4K channel, then going to the other TV should have interrupted it on the first TV. This is limitations in the hardware and tuners of the HR54. Just how it was built.

The Genie-2 (HS17) allows 2 TVs at a time using a 4K channel. But with the other downgrades and limited 4K content, I wouldn't suggest it in most cases.

I should add that I was using 4K to watch the Indy 500 on both TVs.

Could be that one of the C71WKs was streaming it via the internet.

I was using the C71KW-400 on one TV and a 61K-700 on the other TV to get 4k on both at the same time.

Great question. It is connected by Ethernet to the web. But I don't know if that was how it was connected at the time.

The mystery remains that I can only have 2 TVs connected to DirecTV at the same time now when that has never been a problem before. I'm not referring to 4k but non 4k at the same time.
