They won't cancel my account!
I want my account canceled and a final bill. They refuse, and in my opinion they're trying to stall until the next billing cycle which starts April 3, 2023. This company is unethical to say the least. I reported them to the BBB and FCC and advise anyone looking for TV service to shop around, ratings matter!

You can cancel at anytime but it doesn't go into effect until the end of the billing cycle as DTV no longer prorates the final bill so you pay for and receive service until the end of the billing cycle.

What do you mean they refuse? They can’t refuse. What exactly were you told? Regardless, the FCC complaint should straighten it out.

They will only allow me to talk to billing. They won't cancel service and send me a final bill. I don't know how to handle this odd situation.

My gut feeling tells me they will continue to charge me as they won't let me cancel. In other words, they want me to pay first, then they will cancel. Unethical, maybe illegal.

When you called, did you say "cancel" at the voice prompt?
Be sure that you're calling the correct DirecTV phone number below.

They can cancel your service but only in states like California and New York where they have enacted bills to keep them from ripping you off and charging until the end of a billing cycle, even if you are no longer using their equipment. And they will say oh it's policy but only because they are trying to get over on you. And there are some states that have said it's not ok to do that to the consumers. Complain to the FCC, the BBB, and your government representatives. Unfortunately, companies like this cannot be counted on to do the right thing... profits over people...

As stated before you can cancel service at anytime but it will not go into effect until the end of the billing cycle and you continue to receive service until then, it is up to you if you want to use it or not. DTV is not the only company that no longer prorates the bill.

Hi Shannon. Your answer does not change our experience. This is what happened and what was told to me when I called in April 2024.
I requested that my Directv service be canceled and he stated, "I cannot cancel my Directv service because I have a past due bill." I clarified that I wanted to keep my internet and could not afford Directv due to financial hardship caused by my employer.
We know this NOW but customers are being told this. Instead of canceling my Directv service, he transferred me to another department (legacy) for them to provide a discount.
