Shady business
On October 25th of 2023, I cancelled my service with Direct TV. I was a loyal customer for over 17 years. On Nov 1st, I received a notice stating I owed $189 for the month of November. I called customer service twice to find out that AT&T's billing cycle goes from the 17th to the 17th of each month. Because I missed this cutoff date by 8 days, I was required to pay for 22 days that I didn't receive service. I was told that AT&T does no pro rate in Colorado. I simply think this is abysmal and very shady business practice. I am shocked a company as large as AT&T is willing to do this to customers. I will never return.

DirecTV, like many companies, does not pro-rate bills. So, yes, you're obligated through the end of the contract month.

The reality is service companies (not just DirecTV or AT&T) stopped prorating final bills years ago. DirecTV was neither the first nor the last to adopt that billing practice. If this makes you never return, then you don't go with any other pay TV provider as they have the same billing policy.
From 2018:
Please read this if you receive DIRECTV, AT&T U-verse® TV, AT&T Internet, AT&T Phone, and/or AT&T Fixed Wireless service(s). We want to remind you that you’re billed in advance for recurring service(s) and/or programming charges and applicable fees based on the terms of your current service agreement(s) with us. Starting January 14, 2019, subject to applicable laws, we’re updating your agreement(s) to include your recurring service(s)/programming charges and fees won’t be prorated if you cancel the above service(s) on any day other than the last day of your billing cycle. Your service(s) will continue until the end of your billing cycle but you won’t get a refund (prorated credits) for any remaining days left in your billing cycle. For products not listed above, refer to their terms of service for more information.
