Service cancellation timing and request

I want to cancel my service on the last day of my two year subscription, and avoid any termination fees.  After doing the whole phone and placed on hold and talking to a rep, I did not receive an accurate answer on this.  They told me my two years ends on September 4, 2019.  I want to cancel my service to incur no early termination fees and I do not want to pay for an extra month.  I could not get an accurate answer on how to do this.  My preference would be to tell them today (Aug 17) to cancel my service on Sept 3,4,5 or whatever date will not cause early termination nor cause me to get another month's fee. Can someone provide the accurate answer for how to do this?  Thanks.

What are the billing dates on your monthly bill? Hopefully your billing month runs from the 5th to the 4th so the end of your billing month lines up with your contract but they may not. Your billing dates will determine when to cancel.

The dates on my bill show:  Aug 05 - Sep 04.  My question remains - exactly how do I cancel so that I do not receive an early termination fee nor do I have to pay for an additional month.  i.e. - do I have to phone them on September 4?

You basically need to call them on the day you wish to cancel. Based on the dates of your bill, that would be Sept 4. Cancelling on the 4th avoids any ETF or new month charges. You will need to call on the 4th, they likely won’t let you schedule the cancel for the 4th. For one thing, they will pass you to retentions to try to convince you to stay.

You can cancel at anytime but you will pay for and receive service until the end of your billing cycle.

Are you sure about that? Paying for the service through the end of the billing cycle, yes but I’ve seen complaints from people who had there service cut off immediately and were surprised when they saw they were still billed through the end of the cycle. Maybe continuing to receive service is the way it should happen but based on complaints I’ve seen, not always. I personally would call to cancel on the day I wished service to end.

AFAIK if they are making you pay till the end of the billing cycle they have to provide the service until then otherwise they are leaving themselves open for losing in binding arbitration cases.

Services typically can set for a future date for cancellation.  Typically reps cancel at the end of the billing period to avoid time without service for the month that has been paid for.  In your case it's as simple as requesting Sept. 4th as the date, yet be warned the services will be off at 12 am Sept. 4th.

I had a contract subscription with xfinity for 2 years contract, I had been billed previous bill sep 17- August 17. I went to store personally to cancel the service because this was increase a lot after contract. If my contract ends Aug 17 and I canceled services and gave them all equipment they still send me another bill in which they charge for early termination fee; and I don’t understand why if i cancel in the date my contract ends. If I was going to store Aug 18 in very sure they will send a bill for a day I pass services. This company is q billionaire and still try to take money if the costumer and it’s not right.

This is the DirecTV forum which has nothing to do with Xfinity. But some general info that may shed some light for you.

Your contract date is not guaranteed to be the same as your service dates. Upgrades of equipment or other contractual promotions mid-cycle can cause those dates to be different.

As a note, it is standard in the service industry to not prorate the final bill. No matter what day within your service month you contact a provider to cancel, it goes through at the end of that service month. This would be reflected within the Terms of Service. DirecTV joined this standard in 2019.

So if your service starts over on the 17th of the month and you call to cancel on Aug 18, then you pay for service Aug 17 thru Sep 16. That is not affected by your contract date. All the contract date means is if you are canceled before it you would have an early cancelation fee (ECF) on top of your final bill.
