Quitting DTV

After 7 yesrs DTV no longer will apply discounts to my expiring account. I called and they are firm in no providing the loyalty discounts previously applied. There is no flexibility as in the past. Now is take it or leave it!  From $144 it will increase to $180. So I am leaving to Spectrum TV in bundle with internet 500mhps costs $182. With DTV would be $180 + $44. Same kind of channel lineup, at a lower price.

DTV is not an ISP and no channels packages from two providers are exactly alike.  Don't know if it still in effect since AT&T sold off 30% of DTV but their CEO stated there will be no more discounts for existing customers and they have discontinued giving new customers the 1 year discount, now it is a 2 year price lock.

DirecTV accounts do not expire. If you mean your service agreement, all that completing means that if you choose to cancel there is no early cancellation fee (ECF).

Discounts are not forever. Sometimes we have to pay what the service actually costs. After a financial review AT&T's CEO announced a pullback on discounts as too much has been given out.

Apparently your account reached threshold where those discounts are no longer worth it for them. So now you arrange service within your budget, even if that means switching. In the end it is your responsibility to manage your finances, not expect a company to throw discounts at you to make it affordable. So yes, take it or leave it as you are not entitled to TV or discounts.

This is just a public forum, not an airport, so your departure notice doesn't change the situation. If you want to cancel, call DirecTV. Just remember cancelation goes through the end of your service cycle so be aware of those dates before you schedule another provider to be installed.
