Tegna is now the one demanding almost double the rate for channels that are free over the air with an antenna. DIRECTV is actively attempting to keep the price the same and not pass any additional costs to customers. They are offering a $10 complimentary credit for those affected by the dispute, you should have received an email regarding this.

Tegna pulled their channels away because of carriage negotiations. Just like they did the last time and in the same genre as Nexstar pulling their channels. Hopefully like last time Tegna's will be short lived and not the hassle that Nexstar was.

Canceling DirecTV or any other TV provider does not solve this. They all go through carriage negotiations. Local affiliate owners (Nexstar, Tegna, Mission, etc.) are pulling the feed more often in recent years. Their goal is to get the TV provider to cave to higher rates.

There is a annual price adjustment, primarily because of these annoying negotiations. Network owners raise their rates so TV provider follows suit. The price adjustment is based on prior negotiations. So it is expected that Tegna's will affect the next one. Though what is odd is usually notification is in December with new rates in January. So taking effect in November is a couple months earlier than normal.
