Is it fraud or a scam?

We transferred our direct tv from one state to another and in the process after we were set up in our new home we received a phone call stating we need to prove we are not a business and to send pictures of the inside of our home along with a pic of tv after we hold down a button for so many seconds and it brings up information.. That to me is absolutely odd and scary so I said I didn’t believe her and wouldn’t do it! I asked her if your technician was just at our house why doesn’t he know it is a home and not a business? At that point she told me she was going to turn off our service if we did not comply with her demand! I refuse to do it I am not giving out any personal information or pictures of my home! A few days later we were disconnected! After calling customer support and them treated us like we were criminals  I decided to discontinue our service! We are retired seniors and this is absolutely bullying and very scary to us!!!! Has Anyone had  the same issues and is this a fraud or scam and how do I get around their customer service that seems to be involved in the same evil plot? I want to turn them in!!!

Sounds like a scammer who had access to your account. They were easily able to call the real DIRECTV and disconnect the account. I suggest you call the legitimate DIRECTV (number in my greeting below) and say ‘cancel’ to the robot. This will send you to the retention/loyalty department where you can tell the agent everything you just told us. They should be able to reconnect your account and get that movers order going again.

Just a few things to know. One, DIRECTV never asks for pictures of your home to confirm that it’s a residential location. That’s all the job of the technician when he/she arrives on-site.

Two, scammers usually ask for gift cards or otherwise unofficial ways to pay, so I’m glad you didn’t give ANY information away.

Nonetheless, a movers order triggers a one year contract if you didn’t know already.

Thank you so much for responding to my very concerned post! I did call that number last night and after being on hold on and off for almost an hour she told me that She could not help me and that I needed to talk to the fraud department which I was transferred to and it was just an automated line telling me that I needed to email them for A packet to fill out to prove I am not a business! This has taken so much time out of our days and has caused so much stress for us!

@DeniseLong1999

the next time you get a free moment call DIRECTV (number in my greeting below) and say ‘cancel’ to the robot. If you don’t, you will likely be sent to a less professional agent that will throw you off to the fraud dept which is usually all online.

If concerns aren’t fixed after several phone calls, you additionally have the option of a BBB complaint.

Yes I will definitely call when they open, but as of last night that is exactly where they said we are in the fraudulent area and that is why it is causing us such stress! We do not know who to believe and what to do at this point! Do you have any websites to go to as they were trying to tell us last night to fill out a form? I don’t even know if that is something we should do! We feel very violated and this should not be happening!
