History Channel Issues

I recently changed my subscription with Direct to the Select package. At the time I made the change, I mentioned no less than 5 times that I wanted to make sure the History Channel was part of the deal. She informed me it was. The next day, I went to watch that channel (269) and found I couldn't access it. I called, and was put on a brief hold while they activated it. Great. It was working. A few days after that, I wanted to record a particular series. When I searched the series and went to record it, apparently it RECORDS it from the "on-demand" channel (1269) associated with the "regular" channel (269). And, I got a message saying I wasn't subscribed to 1269, and it wasn't available to me. It made zero sense. I thought it was a mistake, and all I needed was to have 1269 activated. So I called - AGAIN. I went round and round with the agent I spoke to, as well as a supervisor. They both told me that the on-demand channel is not available to me. Now, if I have the HISTORY channel already, what is the difference?? This is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of, and am now contemplating leaving Directv after almost 10 years to find another avenue to watch this.

Hi, @jandutmers Thanks for the details, and we understand how important it's to enjoy your programing.

After reviewing what's happening I found that we're experiencing a national situation with the ENTERTAINMENT and SELECT packages while trying to record the on-demand channels as 1252 Lifetime, 1265 A&E and, 1269 History.

Our engineers are working to get this fixed as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience with this matter.

Interesting. Why did no one know this when I called?? I spoke to a supervisor at length and she insisted it’s “just not part of the deal.” We went round and round about it. It made no sense at all. Any idea on the time frame for resolution?

@vp714 if you’ve tried refreshing your receiver online via Directv.com/refresh and pressing the red reset button on the front where it says ‘PRESS’ or the side by the access card (HR54 series) with no success, then there isn’t much you can do. The issue is still known and is yet to be fixed.

If you tried doing the red button reset, wait 24-48 hours for the on-demand library and Guide to populate.

I'm thinking that there really isn't a "known issue" with the on demand of these channels discussed in this thread because these are the "opt in" channels which is kind of like "complimentary" channels so since they're not really a part of your base package the on demand isn't included so there's really nothing to fix. Just a thought

Is there an update on this issue? I haven't had History channel on demand since last year. I was told it was a technical issue and they were working on it, but doesn't seem like they are working on it since it is going on almost a year. This company cannot seem to resolve technical issues or doesn't care. They are becoming irrelevant with all the other options to watch tv. Guess I have to think about leaving. Their new app doesn't work if you have a Motorola phone either.

I have the History channel. But I cannot use the History on demand feature which is odd since I have the channel. I was told a year ago that it was a "technical issue" and being worked on. However, since it still doesn't work and requires me to upgrade when I try to access on demand, it doesn't seem Directv cares and will ever resolve it.
