Got scammed by a dealer representing himself as Spectrum and DirectTV
My parents run a restaurant with 3 TV's that play sports channels.
They got a visit from a sales rep for Spectrum and DirectTV and he told them, he can reduce their bill if we added DirectTV to our Spectrum package. We had Spectrum Business TV and Internet. He said he could even increase our Spectrum Internet speed as well for cheaper than what we were paying Spectrum as well.
So my parents said ok and confirmed that Direct TV had more channels than currently with Spectrum TV and had sports channels and it would be cheaper than our current Spectrum bill. One week later technicians from DirectTV arrive and install 3 boxes and we test it and only have basic channels. They call the rep back and he says that is what we agreed too.
Now, we are furious, because how is that even remotely logical for a burger shop that plays sports channels to have no sports channels and less channels than what we had with SpectrumTV. This rep says he doesnt work for DirectTV or Spectrum and now we have a 2 year cancellation fee of $720 even though we got lied to and cancelled in less than 2 weeks. Only reason it took that long was due to the scamming rep not answering his phone and giving us a backend number to call to argue about the cancellation with DirectTV (this is the number he gave 855-735-8333, but I cant find this number tie to DirectTV). I reported to Spectrum Business as we been a customer for 10+ years and also the fraudulent department. Next will be a police report and notify the attorney general possibly. We are currently waiting for the bill and waiting for them to come get their equipment.
When I called Spectrum, the agent mentioned that they got these type of calls before and that it seems like these dealers are targeting small businesses and scamming them like this to get cancellation fees. I know DirectTV is broke and been broke, but how the (Edited per community guidelines) does a sales rep/fake dealer/not spectrum or directtv employee make a false order form and think that a restaurant that plays sports channels would be changing their TV package to something that has no sports channels? Also he said he could get us faster Spectrum internet speeds for cheaper as well. Now, I know that DIrectTV has nothing to do with Spectrum yet this clown is just spewing whatever to my parents to get them to sign a contract.
What would you guys do in this situation?

I’m sorry to hear about your scenario. If I was in this case I would definitely call the DIRECTV for BUSINESS department (number in my greeting below) to explain your scenario and cancel the subscription, if possible. Although you may not be able to avoid the cancellation fee, if you know the dealership that sold you the service, mention their name to directv for business and attempt to file a BBB complaint with regards to the local dealer.

The reason this rep comes across as fraud, is the fact that he made himself visibly as a Spectrum and DirectTV employee. When he had no authority to make any changes to our Spectrum business account.
He informed us they were one company. Only reason why we even listened to the guy. I get anyone can be a rep these days and if he is a rep for both companies, why didn't he provide us options with Spectrum TV as well. The intent he came to fraud is what we are upset with making us look stupid calling Spectrum Business only to be told we been scammed.

DTV doesn't use door to door salespersons, so he is working for a third party company that sent the order to DTV.
