Direct Tv
Been a Direct TV customer for over 20 years. Just raised my price --- refused to keep me at my current rate --- would have been a difference or only 12 dollars. New customers are getting huge discounts --- they do not seem to care if you leave -- any advice

I suggest calling DIRECTV (number in my greeting below) and saying ‘cancel’ to the robot to be sent to the retention/loyalty department. There, you can converse with the agent about the recent increase in price and threaten to cancel. They may be able to offer a temporary discount on your bill, or even a free viewing of premium channels (i.e. 3 free months of HBO, Starz, Showtime, and Cinemax). If they cannot offer you anything, you can always cancel and find a cheaper streaming alternative. DIRECTV, like other similar cable and satellite TV providers, rarely gives loyalty discounts these days as it suffers the loss of those cancelling service to cut the cord and go to cheaper alternatives. All I can say is, good luck. Let us know how it goes.

Being with them for 20 years or being with them for 5 years it does not matter. They have raised the cost for everyone. They also do not give as many loyalty discounts as they used to because they were losing too much money doing so. New customers are also bound by a 2-year contract which you are not so in order to get them to stay they give them discounts and then gradually increase their price until they are paying full price for their service. They cannot cancel without having to pay a cancelation fee of 20 a month for the rest of their 2-year contract. Whereas you could cancel your service and go to a different company at any time. I would say that it is not that they don't care but they cannot make everyone happy all the time.
If you are looking for a cheaper service you could check into streaming PlutoTV has a lot of channels for free and RokuTV also has free channels to watch. There are also many different streaming services of varying prices to choose from it just depends on the channels you have to have.

New customers no longer get the 1yr discount they now get a 2yr price guaranty to pay the set price they where given on sign up after that they pay the going rate month to month. Remember you got the same 1 yr discount when you signed up.
