Customer Account Data Stolen... Scammers are Scamming Us
I get a call a day (not exaggerating!) from someone claiming to be from "AT&T DirecTV" offering me a discount. Yesterday they even created a phony "DIRECTV" caller ID. The guy with the Indian accent then comes on and gathers personal information in an attempt to hack into my account, and when that fails (because I gave them phony information) they try to get bank information directly by asking for a "fee" to ship my free Samsung S22 phone. (Yeah, right!)
These scammers are aggressive, so it is obviously working. People are falling for the scam, and I hear NOTHING from AT&T/DirecTV warning us about this. AT&T/DirecTV customers are losing money and no one seems to care. I even tried to call DirecTV to report it and get it escalated (I had one of the scammers legitimate incoming phone lines!), and the agent was clueless that there was ever a breach, and gave me advice on how to protect my account. I'm trying to get DirecTV to DO SOMETHING to protect their customers!
SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS!!!
Snail mail notices. Email warnings. Login page splash warnings. Not just once, but REPEATEDLY until the scam is no longer profitable for them. LET PEOPLE KNOW THIS IS A SCAM.

This scam has been around for years although the phone part is new. DTV has sent messages to all DTV receivers 6 or more times. Nobody reads them as you can see as they are still using it. Your info is out there for anyone to buy. AT&T sold off 30% of DTV and the new partners are running the day to day operations so anyone claiming to be from AT&T are not.
