Canceling Directv
I will be canceling my Directv service in a few days, possibly tomorrow. Is it still true that Directv does not prorate to the date of cancelation. Since I have not paid my current bill, (Due on Oct. 26th.) will I have to pay it in full if I cancel 20 days before the next billing cycle starts? As an alternative, since my billing is in advance, if I downgrade my service to a lower tier before I cancel, and pay the current bill in full, will I get a credit because the package price was reduced in the middle of the month. It seems that in the past, I have added or made changes during the month and those changes have either increased or decreased in a prorated amount and reflected on the next bill.

Yes, it is still true that DTV no longer prorates the final bill, You pay for and receive service until the end of your billing cycle regardless of when you cancel. You are not paying in advance, your billing cycle started the day you where installed, on day 2 the bill is made and sent unless you are on auto pay that will pay it then, on day 20 the bill is do.

If I pay my bill tomorrow, then I will be paying for services from the 6th. of October until the 5th. of November. If I cancel tomorrow, then technically I will be paying in advance for a service I have canceled. While I understand your reply, Directv's policy is that I haven't really canceled until the new billing cycle. So how does that policy affect my account if I change the tier of service. Normally the changes take effect immediately if I ADD a service (HBO for instance) and will be billed for it from the day it is activated on my system. Does the same apply if I downgrade durning the month and services are reduced?

AFAIK you have already been billed for Oct 6-Nov 5 so changing the package will not change it. The cancellation goes into affect on Nov 5.

As stated earlier, I understand that the bill I paid yesterday is for current service that runs thru Nov 5th. I will be canceling prior to the start of next month's cycle. But, if I downgrade my tier of service now, I will receive a final bill (after equipment returned) that will reflect the number of days (approximately 19) used at a reduced rate. Therefore creating a credit since I paid the full bill for the month. I would expect a refund of this amount after termination.
