Cancel and Sign Back Up?

D-TV keeps going up in price and is just too much (especially with some medical bills we've had) for us to continue paying to watch like 10 channels (but we like actual Channels & their DVR for sports over Youtube).

I called last weekend to get the price down/cancel, and they said they only could do $30 off per month (had $50 off a little over a year ago and $40 this past year). The person said that was the only promotion they could add to my account.
So I said it was still too much and I guess I have to cancel, so I did.

We have channels until Aug 2, but we have quite a few things on the DVR we still want to watch, so would renew if I could get $50 off.
They keep advertising the $65 a month for new customers (plus I think there is a $15 fee). If I let it expire next month, could I sign back up and get that, but keep my DVR stuff?
Any other thing to try?

Nope, DTV requires you to not have service for at least 2 years before they consider you a "new customer".

Hello, we're sorry to hear you decided to cancel due to pricing. We know some situations can affect our budget. Please trust DIRECTV is completely committed to helping you find the best option for your services according to your needs. We work hard to offer the best value, which is tougher to do as costs and competition keep climbing.

The advertising you mentioned is regarding the base price of the ENTERTAINMENT package, and it does not include equipment, add-ons, taxes and fees. You can check more information about it by visiting https://www.directv.com/deals/ Please remember that if you disconnect your account and open a new one, you won't have access to the DVR recordings you previously enjoyed. We're sending you a PM to assist you better. Erika, DIRECTV Community Specialist

There is no longer a 1 yr discount, the price quoted on the website is the full price with a price guaranteed for 2 years.

You don't have to wait 2 years to be a new customer, unless that changed recently.

When we moved a few years ago we cancelled, then signed up within a couple of months and were under the New customers deal. But I was talking more about cancelling and then D-TV calling back with a better offer to keep us. I know they've done that for people.

You got lucky, DTV has always had a 2 year waiting period before you are a "new customer"again although the new partner may change that.  AT&T CEO stated a few years ago the there will be no more discounts for existing customers so that is what happened to most existing customers.
