In June of 2023 I put my account on pause. Have been a customer for 19 years. At the time I had a credit of 174.00. In January of 2024 we switched to Roku and unhooked all directv receivers from service. There has been no power to any thing from directv. In May I received a bill stating I owed them 209.00. I called them and they stated my account had been turned back on. I never authorized anyone to turn anything on or used any service since June of 2023. They send me an email every month that I owe them money but I can’t respond to it. I have called them numerous times trying to get an explanation of how I owe them money for an account that hasn’t been used in a year. Now when I call they ask for an account number. I have no idea what my account number was . When I ask them they can’t confirm what my charges are because the account is cancelled and they need the number to look up my account. How can I get this to end? I’m not paying anything.

Hi, @Pa152. We understand your frustration in receiving this bill. For voluntary suspension, our service auto-restarts on the chosen date or after the maximum allowable suspension of 270 days or 9 months and will continue to bill unless cancelled. I filed a complaint with the BBB yesterday to try and get this fixed. I have paid them over 25k in the last 19 years and just want it to go away. There is no way they can charge me for a service that I haven’t been getting. Everything has been dismantled since January 2024. Who else can I contact to get this settled? Thanks

It was never explained to me that it would automatically restart in 270 days or that you had to physically cancel your subscription.

We understand that such matters can be easy to miss, especially considering that this occurred over a year ago, but please be aware that the disclosure for voluntary suspension is mandatory and must be accepted before submitting the request. Christy, the last 2 months I have received emails from AT&T that my bill is late. When I call the number they tell me that it is not an AT@T matter and transfer me to a different number. When that person answers they give me the number 800-331-5000. When I call that number they ask for my account number which I do not know because it’s not on the Email. They tell me to look at the paper bill which I sent back to them 3 months ago with a note telling that I don’t owe them any money and quit sending me a bill. They then use my phone number to look up my account and tell me it has been closed and I owe them money but can’t look up why because I don’t know the account number. My point is simple. When I use electricity my electric company charges for the service they provide and I pay the bill. Directv hasn’t supplied me a service since June of 2023 so what are you billing me for? There has been no signal at my house. I have an Email from May 2024 stating it was cancelled and I do not need to return the receivers and to recycle them. I have tried to file a complaint with directv multiple times but it asks for an account number which I do not have. You have asked to talk by DM? What is DM? Thansk

We understand that you haven't been using DIRECTV after unhooking all your receivers since January 2024, but service is still being provided to the account until after cancellation. We've sent you a private message where you can locate in the upper right between the notification icon (bell) and "directv.com". You must be logged into your forums account to have access to it. What service are you providing. There is no satellite signal coming. The satellite has been down since January. Are you sending me air? No directv person has been to my house in over 5 years. I am supposed to get an answer from the BBB within 5 business days. I will private message you back after I hear a response from them. I have had an account with directv for 19 years and paid my bill. Do you think all the sudden I decide I just wanna quit paying it.

You suspended (paused) the account in June 2023. In January 2024 you disconnected your equipment because you were using Roku. Started receiving bill in May 2024.
DirecTV may suspend service up to 9 months (used to be 6). It is not indefinite. So if you didn't call to cancel the account when you decided to go to streaming-only, then the account automatically resumed as they will not keep it paused forever.
If that is what happened than unfortunately the bill is correct. Usage doesn't matter as DirecTV is subscription based. There are no TV hours/minutes used to track.
And DirecTV always sends a signal as it covers the country. It is a one-way transmission so they have no way to see what you're using.
