Bill Dispute

We were told by DTV customer service to file a claim to dispute a charge that has been on my bill for two years. The person we spoke to said notes were made in our account showing the discrepancy and we should be credited for 29 charges. She said we needed to file this on a computer and on the website. I cannot find a link to file a claim to dispute a charge. Please assist.

Those links are for fraud, not for billing disputes.

Op here is the right link:

There is no online form to dispute charges on bill. That is done through customer support. So whomever you spoke with shuffled you off the phone or at best has no idea. The links provided by @shannon02 were for disputing the entire account (identity theft claim).

DirecTV only has a 60 day dispute policy. In practice they may count the last 2 bills and the current month to date. Unfortunately, at 2 years it has been too long. Like all companies they require to be notified in a reasonable time. Counting in years there has been plenty of time to review your bills.

That link is for the payment dispute form (missing, missapplied, etc.). Not for disputing charges themselves.

If your inquiry is regarding bill item or charge on your DIRECTV account, the best and fastest method for resolving your issue is to speak with a billing agent

If your issue is regarding an incorrect or unauthorized debit appearing on you bank statement, please continue to complete this form as this will provide us with the necessary information to research and resolve the issue.

What are the 29 charges

From context, I believe that is 29 months of the same charge. That would be a few months over the 2 years they mention.

But yes, @ashyn3 what was the charge for in the first place?

As mentioned already in this thread, there is no link to dispute charges and never has been. The links are only for disputing account (identity theft) or payment issue (missing, misapplied to wrong account, etc.).

To dispute charges you must call DirecTV. They don't call you. This is a public forum, though some users are very experienced and can give guidance. What charges are you disputing?

Like everything else, the link the agent gave me is not a link to dispute.

I have been a customer for 26 years, you have billed my account last month for $93.34 and today $153.34.
This is what Direct TV does to the customers. They automatically charge ahead to get more money.
I have disconnect the box today and cancelled the account and ask for request to get $153.34 refunded. I asked to speak manager and she put me on hold and then Kia came on the phone and she was not a manager she was a supervisor, passing the message from the previous agent. Kia was rude and obviously she doesn't have professional speaking skills. Stop charging my account and come pickup your system, I don't need it, you can remove the satellite dish on the roof as well. Direct TV is greedy and your agents call constantly to get this for free and three months later your charging more. To me that's a racket, what a shame to use people for your gain of money.

DTV doesn't pick up anything and you own the dish to do what you want with it, but if mounted on the roof it is recommended to leave the mounting plate attached to the roof to prevent leaks.  You have to call DTV to get a return kit to take the returnable receivers to the post office.

Why would I have to go to the post office to get a return kit. That is your job, you got my money complete your job to remove it. Pathetic!!!

Direct TV lost a lot of business when NFL package was removed and your political reviews with News Max, says a lot. Good Bye!

This is a customer to customer forum not DTV support.   Since DTV no longer prorates the final bill you pay for and receive service until the end of your billing cycle so DTV should send a return kit if you have any returnable receivers at that time and you have 21 days to return them to the post office to send them to DTV.

@nettaruf

DirecTV sends the bill out at the start of the bill cycle. That is how they've always been.

What has changed, is several years ago they joined other service providers in no longer prorating the bill upon cancellation. So you pay for the entire cycle, not credited for unused days. You have access to service through that time of course.

Upon install, you own everything but the receiver/client boxes. That is why nobody ever goes out to do an uninstall.

You don't go to the Post Office to get a return kit. The historic return process is DirecTV ships you a prepaid return kit by FedEx to your physical service address. Once you've packed up the receiver/client boxes with the included label you take to the Post Office for the free return.

When AT&T acquired DirecTV they changed to having you take the receiver/client boxes to a participating FedEx or The UPS Store for the free return. No return kit needed, just your account number as it was a bulk return. They only used the historic process if you verified you were over 10 miles away from a participating shipping location. Now that AT&T is selling off their ownership in DirecTV, the current owner may be returning to just the traditional process for everyone.

Instead of assuming that DirecTV should function exactly the way you imagine, get the actual facts on how it works. On that note, this is a public forum which is mostly other customers. So it is not our job as you've badly assumed.

If you have further questions or concerns that other users may be able to guide you on, please start a fresh thread specific to your issue. With a thread years old (2022) it risks having outdated information so suggested to find a fairly recent thread or start your own if needed.
