Advanced Receiver Service

Is the Chat function turned off on DirecTV? It shows as a Contact Us method but you can't click on anything to start the dialogue.

I have a $15.00 charge on my monthly invoice for Advanced Receiver Service. What is that? I'm trying to cut expenses due to Covid-19 and want to see if I can remove this charge!!

@Juniper any idea what the charge is?

@tamplen chat has been disabled for the most part due to covid 19 and chat reps have been moved to phone support

@tamplen

If you have Advanced Receiver Service $15, then you have a newer account (opened late 2015 or later).

That covers DVR and Whole Home DVR. Those are required if 1 of your boxes is a DVR/Genie model. The only way to remove it would be replacing all your boxes with HD non-DVRs (i.e. H25).

Hi, how about if I access the service via Roku? Do I need this $15 "thing" Is it a box? Does it connect wirelessly to network? A :cloud" service? Do all streamed signals go though this device? Can I not buy/rent this thing or MUST I buy/rent it? (Then how do they stream to computers outside the home)? Thanks for the help....finding it hard to find good solid answers.

So long as you have a DTV sat account with a DVR then you will be charged the ARS fee.  You can't use the app without a DTV account.

DirecTV is service by satellite. It requires at least one box. The only way to remove the $15 is to have all boxes be non-DVRs as previously mentioned.

The charges is for the services, not the box itself. It covers the entire account, not charged per box.

If you want streaming only through Roku (or similar devices) then you need to look into DIRECTV STREAM instead. They are separate providers.

Hi. After chatting on the website, I found out that you CAN order without ASR, but you have to go to a special website...it's $80 a month without ASR (March 2024 pricing) vs $70+$15 ($85) with ASR, so ASR costs $5. All my Vs are Roku capable, so I don't need it, but ASR gives you local storage for recordings; if not, you have to use cloud storage.

Also, FYI, DirecTV now offers an "internet service" which is not satellite based. That's what I am referring to... I'm sure the satellite version needs "something" (ASR?) to process the signal.

The service you are looking for is DIRECTV stream BYOD.

More info here:

As this is a four year old thread, it will be closed.

DTV sat and DTV via internet AKA DTV streaming are separate services.  DTV via internet AKA DTV streaming uses an app that is installed on Smart TVs or to a streaming devices or by using DTVs own streaming device connected to the TV.  It doesn't need a DTV DVR with the ARS fee.

You are missing the key point.

DirecTV is satellite.  You can ONLY remove the ARS by not having a DVR to begin with.

DIRECTV STREAM and the newer DirecTV by Internet are streaming-only. These are the ones you can get without receiver services.

So a streaming-only service is what you want. This thread is about DirecTV satellite (not what you want) and from 4 years ago which is why it is closed.

If you need further help, post your own thread in a more appropriate section.
