Watching DirecTV while traveling in the UK

We were told specifically that we would be able to watch DirecTV while traveling in the UK. We are now in Northern Ireland, attempting to log in using our DirecTV App...

The message we keep getting is:

Looks like something went wrong.

Give it a try later.

Help! Please...

You were told wrong. directv streaming only works within the continental United States. You can try connecting to a VPN for USA but this is against DIRECTV's terms and conditions so do it at your own risk.

Thank you, detuch254... I appreciate the information.

Very frustrating to be misinformed by the company employees, as we would have temporarily suspended our service and saved some money...

This won't help you now, unfortunately... but...there was a device called Slingbox. This device was something you'd stick between your receiver and TV. It was my understanding that this worked anywhere in the world the viewer was.

The developers ceased supporting it and turned the servers off.

If you're feeling nerdy/techy, there's communities online that have brought life back to it. However, you gotta have a bit of tech brains. It's not the easiest thing in the world to turn back on.

And no, you're not gonna find any of these devices in stores...but eBay should have plenty.
