DirecTV (satellite) does not have an option to add streaming services like Amazon Prime. They are essentially competitors.

You'll need a separate streaming device, like Roku, FireStick, or a Smart TV App.

If you have the Gemini receiver, you can do it but you need to go into the Apps section in Menu, log into your Google account, and install Amazon Prime from the Google Play Store.

Apologies, yes the new Gemini is available for DirecTV (satellite) customers. It is the only box at this time that can download apps like other streaming devices.
Keep in mind the Gemini is a Client, not a receiver. So like Mini Genies, it has no tuners or recording space of its own.

It is a function of your TV and its (the TV) direct internet connection. Also you need a smart tv to load the Prime application on your TV. Confusing but it can be done.
I did it on my sony

As mentioned earlier in the thread, the new Gemini does support apps like Amazon Prime. You can also use a dedicated streaming box (Roku, Firestick, etc.).
So they DON'T need a 'smart' TV. That is simply one of the options.
