Video On Demand Expiration Dates No Longer Available

Up until 1-2 months ago, I could see the "Available Until..." date for any Video On Demand program (movie or TV show) on any channel. (It appear when you press "Info" button on any On Demand program.)

This information no longer appears.

I have a lot of programming on my DVR, and I would often use the Free On Demand Expiration Date to determine what to clear from my DVR (or not to "Keep") if DVR gets full.

I could always watch program On Demand at a later date if available months into the future. (Or re-record to DVR if it airs on linear TV.) Without this info, I have no idea how long a movie or TV program will be available Free On Demand in case I miss recording to DVR.

Is there a reason the expiration date has been removed from On Demand programming, and can get this information elsewhere? (I have regular DirecTV genie, not DirecTV Stream.)

Thank you in advance. I searched this forum for other similar posts but couldn't find one.

Have you tried a red button reset?

I have rebooted the box from the Menu option a few times since I noticed the problem, but not a red-button reset. (I'm not sure what the difference is here.)

Quick question: How long should I hold red button in for reset (its been a while since I've reset box this way)?

Coax connections are tight. Internet is and has been functioning normally. As far as I can tell, all On Demand information has been displaying normally on all programs EXCEPT for the Availability Date.

So it seems weird that this is technical. But I will try the red-button reset when I get a chance.

Just out of curiosity, are you all able to see Availability Date for On Demand programming?

OK, I'm back. I tried the reset options above.

Did a quick red-button reset two nights ago. Did not fix problem.

Last night I tried the power reset (unplugged box for a little over 1 minute). It reloaded the guide, my recordings, my upcoming recordings, all that stuff (all of this also happens when preforming reset from Menu option).

But still no "Availability" date for On Demand programming.

Now, you mentioned it may take 24-48 hours for all of the information to re-appear. It's been about 10 hours since I did the "power unplug". Maybe I need to wait another day(?)

One other thing - I contacted my brother last night (he is also a DirecTV customer with DVR and access to On Demand just like me).

I had him check his On Demand programming, and he is seeing the same thing I am - NO "Availability" dates for any On Demand programming.

So this tells me that this is not a technical issue on my end. Rather, this information has been removed for some reason (no idea why). I know it comes through the internet connection, but does anyone have an idea which entity controls this information? I wouldn't think it's the individual networks, since the On Demand Availability dates stopped appearing on the SAME DAY approx 1-2 months ago for ALL channels. (I checked several of them.)

Is anyone else seeing this same problem? And does anyone know if there is another way to get On Demand Availability dates?

Thank you all for your responses.

Each channel controls their On Demand programing.

I've downloaded an On Demand program and there is an expatriation date so don't know why yours isn't.

Hmm, that's strange.

I get that the individual networks probably control which programs are available for On Demand and for how long, but not specifically what information is displayed with the program. Everything shows title, rating, genre, runtime, etc regardless of channel, but not Expiration Date anymore (at least on my end). Expiration date used to display right below the rating, genre but no longer.

Can you tell me what you downloaded and where you see the expiration date?

In the playlist.  I don't recall seeing an expiration date with the rating.  I just looked again and do see available until under the title on my HR24 next to the rating..

I went ahead and brought up Free On Demand information for a movie as an example. I took photo of my TV and marked where the "Available Until..." date used to appear but no longer. Just wanted to show you what I am seeing.

I am experiencing the same issues as scottks. It appears Directv removed the line that included the "Available Until" info. Most of the shows were available until May 31, 2025.

The Availability dates that I used to see never contained the year, just month and day, so I never knew if the date was for year 2022, 2023, 2024, etc.

Free On Demand shows had different expiration dates, typically at the end or beginning of the month for movies (some did expire mid-month). After that, some of them were still available on PPV. If no PPV, they were no longer available at all. (There are a few exceptions where a movie will still air on linear TV with no Free On Demand or PPV.)

The date and year were shown on the app when you could download programs to your phone before they updated to streaming only. The DVR only showed month and day as you mentioned. Most ABC, CBS,...shows were/are available until the beginning of the next season. Programs on ID, A&E, NATGEO,.. use to indicate available until 5/31/25 or 6/1/25.

DTV like most TV providers buy the guide from a third party and can't change it.  I still have the available till under the title.
