Tegna - Directv dispute

Its now 2024, how much longer will this blackout last? The streaming option is (Edited per community guidelines). If I want to stream all my local stations then why am I paying for Directv?

This is becoming ridiculous! You cant even stream the NBC shows because your service is connected to Directv.

About ready to throw out Directv after 20+ years

We are customers like you so we know just as much as you about the exact duration of this blackout. It will end when Tegna decides to make a fair agreement with DIRECTV that prevents the increase of the cost of TV as a whole. The only reason DIRECTV has decided to wait so long is to protect customers from bill increases.

Note that switching to a different provider isn’t a permanent solution. Sure, it provides you with your local channels for the time being. However, that new provider may also eventually go into blackouts with TV content owners as well, including greedy ones like Tegna and Nexstar. All providers are vulnerable to these blackouts, not just DIRECTV.

It's ridiculous - the NFL Playoffs are about to start and I have to jump through hoops in order to watch FOX when I already pay an absurd amount.

It is ridiculous to us customers. But to them, Tegna is holding out to get paid more while DirecTV is balking at the increased rate. Both sides are operating within the rules for what is best for them.

The NFL games gives Tegna more leverage. Upset the sports fans so DirecTV will raise costs that much more, and then those same fans will complain at the next price adjustment. Nobody wins during these situations.

This is difficult to fathom. Local channels do not need a cable company. I can just go to Lowe’s and get an antenna and then get these channels for free. Believe me, If DIRECTV raises its prices again (I almost dropped them last time they raised it), I will switch. The irritating thing is my favorite Cleveland Browns are on NBC this weekend for their first playoff game… Guess I’ll go somewhere else to watch it. Greed drives Tegna…

Not everybody can use a antenna (be it signal range, or just a good place to put it). In fact some don't want to because they are embarrassed to use something that is not the newest like their neighbors that rule their life.

But for those that can, I do suggest a regular antenna as a backup. Not only give you an option during negotiations (no matter what provider you have), but can pull in channels from another market your TV provider isn't allowed to show you based on your address, or many sub-channels they don't carry in the first place. You just get whatever is within range without any restriction rules.

What do you mean "if"? All TV providers rates go up occasionally. The more the networks charge, the more they have to go up to compensate. DirecTV has a annual price adjustment, so you will see it again in about a year like you have the last several years. Might as well say if gas prices go up again you'll stop driving.

No TV provider is immune from this so if you go somewhere else, be prepared for their increase. There is no price for life. This is just DirecTV's turn with Tegna.

Bye then as DTV will have to raise the base price so long as the content providers and the local channels continue to increase their prices.

Might as well run to Lowe's for that antenna now.

This is ridiculous. Can't watch the Texans without streaming and you have more playoff games and the Superbowl. If this continues we are done with DT. Already outrageous fee per month.

@KMD

It continues until an agreement is reached. Would you be satisfied if DirecTV caved to the rate increase that allows our bills to go up that much further?

Might as well be done with Tegna. They are the ones holding their channels away to use us customers as leverage to get the rates to go up.

I agree, ENOUGH! Just settle this now!

@Kelly2323

Then tell Tegna to just return the feed instead of demanding a higher rate. Though it may not do much, it would be more productive then telling other customers to settle it as this is a public forum, not official support.

I do not care whose fault it is, I pay Direct Tv not Tegna directly. Let’s get this figured out both companies are using us the paying customers as pawns. Enough is enough.

@Texasranger007

Who you pay directly doesn't make a difference. DirecTV cannot force Tegna to return the feed.

And though both companies are acting in their best interest, Tegna's interest means higher rates for us. Is that what you want?

It does make a difference to me, I pay D/T and that is who will hear my concerns. I would say please do not be gullible about this, our rates will raise with or without D/T and Tegna reaching an agreement eventually anyway. I come from a background of just do it no excuses because enough is enough. I want my ABC back because that is what I am paying for bottom line. FYI I did message the V/P of operations of our local affiliate here, on LinkedIn and gave him a piece of my mind professionally of course.
