recording stuff I didn't set to record, revisited
I originally participated in the thread
recording stuff I didn't set to record
It's still going on. A lot of people reporting the same problem, and essentially, no solutions offered but to replace your receiver. But, after doing so, after you have sacrificed all your previous recordings, and the the problems still persists, what then?
It wouldn't be so bad if there was unlimited storage on the device, but with limited capacity, if the storage exceeds the limit, older programs on the list are automatically deleted, eliminated, without consent or notification of the user.

@NOLIAN
You sound like you are having an issue with DIRECTV satellite. Can you confirm, do you have DIRECTV STREAM or DIRECTV satellite?

The post you added was for streaming so that is why I posted to go to the streaming forum.
If you used search to set up a series then the default of all channels, On Demand and reruns is used. Using the guide only records that channel.

I don't see what a search has to do with anything as long as you pay attention to the media details, and the settings. Regardless, I rarely do a search to set up a series, and even if I did, I set it up accordingly. Even more rare that I would set a series up to record anything but "new" episodes, but if I did so, I would know what to expect.
In the past month or so, this has happened randomly, 5-6 times, on programs where only new programs were set to record.
The last time it happened, just a few days ago, it was the entire previous season of a series that ended Sept 21, 2023, that was adjusted for new episodes only.
It was available for recording any time within the past two months, and a user could have chosen to do so. It's not as if it just became available again after two months.
So how do we explain it randomly showing up in my "List Of Recordings", two months after it had been eliminated from list, and set to only record new episodes.
I've had two entries of the same show, simultaneously appearing in my recording list, showing the same date, same time, on the same channel. I "think" I still have an Image of it if you'd like to see it.

If the channel doesn't send the proper meta data that shows the air date then it is recorded.

"If the channel doesn't send the proper meta data"
I've heard that rationale before, which is just an abdication of responsibility. So, we've finally established that, at least in many cases. this blame is not on user error, as has been implied here. Given that fact, the simple response must be "why don't they fix it."
You can affix the electronic responsibility to whomever you wish, but, it really doesn't matter, as far as subscriber is concerned. I do business with Directv, not ESPN, or HBO, etc.
When I spoke to customer service, their only "solution" was to "replace" the receiver, but they had no answer for "what do you do, if the receiver is replaced, but the bad behavior still continues?"
Are we saying that Directv has no control over this issue? Oh well, we have no control over the entity who owns the given channel? We're more that happy offering our customers a compromised product that can't be relied upon, and we feel no obligation to offer you relief, in terms of rectifying the situation?

DTV only sends what the channels sends them that is all DTV is responsible for.
