Receiver access card

We are receiving an error message "We cannot read your access card".  It now happens once or twice a day.  We push the red button on the receiver and we get the picture back after a couple minutes.  This is a recent phenomenon.  Is something wearing out?

Could be dirt or something else on the contacts, unplug it and remove the card and wipe them off or use an eraser, otherwise you will need to replace the receiver.
