Ready to cast message
I get a ready to cast message when attempting to cast DirecTV app. It attempts to cast but almost immediately goes to screen stating ready to cast. I have deleted and reloaded the app on my IPhone. I checked for updates on the TV and TV is up to date. Other apps cast to the TV so us only an issue with DirecTV.

Thank you for sharing. I had already checked the items on the issue list. There was no issue until I updated the DirecTV app a couple weeks ago. Once I updated the app, I tried to cast and have had the issue ever since. I searched this issue and appears to be an on-going issue. I have been a customer for more than 20 years but this issue may result in me changing providers. I always had DirecTV due to Sunday Ticket but even when that moved to YouTube a number of years ago I still decided to remain a customer. However, this may result in having to reconsider.

If you have the same service for 20 years, that previously had the NFL Sunday Ticket, then you have DirecTV, not DIRECTV STREAM. Moved to the DirecTV forum.
Be aware in the past casting wasn't supposed to work for the satellite service. This is because it not only got around paying for an authorized TV, but had the risk of account sharing something that has been cracked down on with the last couple of owners.
(As a note it was more recent than a number of years ago. The exclusive agreement for YouTube having the NFL Sunday Ticket started with the 2023 season, so last year).

Thanks for waiting. Could we have the model of the TV where you attempted to screencast? Kenneth, DIRECTV Community Specialist

@Juniper DirecTV allows both satellite and Stream to use the app, as stated on their own website: https://www.directv.com/how-to-watch/, which states: "Get the DIRECTV app whether you connect via Satellite or Internet."
As a satellite member, I use it with my Google Chromecast V1 (which doesn't have app features), in my garage, where I don't have a satellite receiver. There hasn't been any notice or wording from DirecTV indicating that satellite subscribers are not allowed to use cast. At the least, it should show a pop-up when I try to cast stating as such (e.g. "Casting feature not available with your plan," etc.). Were you perhaps given specific information about this that you can share? Furthermore, the cast feature still works in one of my kid's rooms where I have a FireStick installed, it seems to be only broken with Google TV casting devices where it does show the "Ready to Cast" screen, but just doesn't properly cast.

Didn't say that the app wasn't allowed. Only that historically, DirecTV (satellite) did not allow the app to cast. It was for watching on the mobile device itself, not getting around having an authorized TV or sharing an account with someone else. Yes would have been nice if they stated that up front so people stopped assuming casting was allowed and then getting upset when they found out the truth. (Using app doesn't mean casting from phone to TV, but people wanted to believe otherwise).
That being said, with the newest app being for both services instead of a separate one built for each, the question is if satellite is allowed to cast now or any who can are just having a feature bleed over that was only supposed to be for STREAM customers.
Remember Firestick, Roku, etc. are dedicated streaming devices that are only for connecting to a TV. Mobile phones are casting because it is a secondary function

Is there any documentation they put out that states that historically satellite customers were not allowed to cast? Because up until a week or so ago, casting has always worked for me.
The app is offered as an extension of the satellite product, and casting is built into it. Unless you have some unreleased insider information or can provide documentation that I've missed, there doesn't seem to be any mention that the casting feature isn't available to satellite subscribers. Also, it still remains to be seen if this is an app bug, or if they've turned the feature off for satellite subscribers, unless, again, you have insider information that hasn't been released/published for users.
I was referring to casting to the Firestick, not the dedicated app. I have a Nvidia Shield Pro that I've tested it with, and the dedicated app works, but casting doesn't. The Firestick, and all other Amazon Fire products, run on Fire OS, which is a fork of Android. Android/Google TV apps are compatible with Fire OS, and, as far as I know, the casting feature/app built into the Firestick is the same as the one found on Android/Google TV products. The fact that it stopped working on Android/Google TV devices, but not Fire OS based ones makes me lean toward it being a bug.

Is it's stated anywhere that satellite subscribers are not allowed to use the cast feature on the app? I've always been able to cast to my Chromecast, Firestick, and Nvidia Shield Pro, up until a couple weeks ago.
Unless I missed it, or you have some insider information that hasn't be released to the public, there's never been any indication that casting was not allowed. The app promoted as being an extension of the satellite user's package, and the cast button is built into and featured on the app, so it's not farfetched to think it's an included functionality, especially since there hasn't been any reason to think otherwise.
I was referring to the casting feature on the Firestick, not the standalone app. The standalone app has continued to work, however casting has only ceased to work on the Android/Google TV devices, but not the Firestick. Amazon Fire products run on FireOS, which is a fork of Android, so I'm not sure why it works but not the devices running purely Android/Google TV.
It's still yet to be seen if this is just a bug with the app, or that they've removed the feature for satellite subscribers (unless you have information this is the case).

Any updates on this issue? Mine does the same. Says ready to cast but doesn't connect. I've connected hundreds of times to this same tv. Cast works for other apps. Internet is fine. But only directv app won't cast..

@crc0921 AFAIK there is no documentation on the old DTV sat mobile app it just didn't work although it did work for some until in some cases there was an software update. DTV combined the 2 apps so there is only 1 app now.

For the app not allowing casting from mobile device to TV (for satellite accounts), there was no straightforward documentation. Seemed to be more internal policies and getting confirmation from knowledgeable reps.
A case of you get the app to use on the phone, but it doesn't say you may cast it. So by documentation it didn't say you could do it. Would have been nice if they had listed it in one of the FAQs over the years. You pay for each authorized TV, which is all at one residence. So this restriction prevented people trying to get a free additional TV on the service, or worse sharing account with someone else.
Now that they have a made a new app to cover both satellite and stream-only customers, either it is changing or the permissions aren't separating correctly between the two types of service.
