Passthru audio doesn't switch to installed Apps on new TCL 4K Tv

Just purchased a new TCL 4K tv on Black Friday but have an issue with audio changing with the TV.

Using a Direct TV receiver, 4K Sony Passthru Receiver with ARC. 

Wiring all high quality HDMI cables - HDMI from Direct TV box to input of Sony TV/Sat connection of HD Receiver. Output from Sony Receiver(ARC) to ARC port of TV.

Turn devices on and you get full DTS sound for TV Broadcast via direct tv and the Passthru receiver with no issues at all

But when you try and switch and  engage the built in Apps on TCL TV , you can access  but audio still plays from TV Broadcast !

Any Help is appreciated!

The Sony is an STR-DH 590 which is an entry level 4K that can handle 5.1 Surround. I am thinking that they has to be a way to toggle between the TV (Direct TV) Signal and engaging the APPS that came installed with the TV. I have a workaround with a Firestick connected to the Mediabox outlet;et of the receiver so there has to be a way to stop the TV volume when you open up the app. Thanks for your help!!
