Nexstar: DirecTV has made no effect to resolve
This hold out has been going on for over 2 months now with no end in sight. Local channels are pretty much gone and I have to use my streaming services to watch the most basic things, such as market area NFL games. Meanwhile however, the billing surely hasn't went down rather up, after 13 years of loyal service but that's a story for another day ( including billing for channels I didn't request, extended contracts from "free offers" for premium channels, lying at about partnership with Frontier Internet etc). I just now found out about the refund for Nexstar and was informed by customer service I was supposed to get that back in July, wasn't applied until I just called though it was memoed to be applied automatically.
Basically, I'm at the point of switching to Optimum which i already have here with their internet. Can get the same exact package at half the cost and not be sitting through all of this mess.
But, kudos to the agent for trying to help me out and informing me of what I wasn't getting. So there's a positive

So are you going to change providers again when it is their turn with Nexstar? Read their TOS and you will probably find the same clause as DTV "channels and programing are subject to change at anytime." What do you think causes all TV providers cost go up its those channels wanting more money to be carried.

I'll move providers as much as I feel will be necessary, honestly. Just like them, I'm in this for me and the cheapest cost. See how that works both ways? If DirecTv isn't helping the customers, can't say I have much desire to stay loyal to them either

@Juniper here's the scoop on free air in my area: doesn't exist. I live in a very mountainous region, to where the nearest station is less than 4 miles away but I can barely receive its transmission due to the terrain. Next station is probably 15 miles away and doesn't come in, period. So we are relegated to either Satellite or Cable ( the cable company is one of 2 internet providers nearby)
Historically speaking, I despised the local cable company but, it's changed hands and names at least 3 times since I was last a customer. Today, it's Optimum and I have heard nothing but good from family who have them and pay half of what I do, while receiving twice as much. As it stands, I'm at about $110 a month with DirecTv using a VERY basic package. It's actually $170 a month but since I last complained about the bill, I got a $60 credit for long term loyalty but I have to call every September to retain that. The package has still gone up because in the past 3 years it was $80 a month.
But to answer the Nexstar question? Let me ask that with a question actually: how does Optimum , Cox , Shentel, Dish etc afford it?

Dish has been in a dispute with Nexstar since Jan. and no longer carries RSN. Disney and Spectrum are also in a dispute. The same as DTV minimize the cost increase.

@Juniper fair enough, but like I said, as rude and selfish as this sounds? I'm in this for me and only me. I'm not after the greater good of DirecTV subscribers nor the company themselves. If anyone wants to be a cheerleader for them and remain unwaivering loyal, that's their right entirely. But I'm like a dog: I'm loyal as long as you feed me. When the meals comes up short, I'll hit the street. That's where we are here with DirecTV and any of these disputes because lets face it: Nexstar is just ONE of many they've had including the one against Viacom that went on far longer than it should've. And the last I checked? Viacom isn't some small areal market group rather a major player in the game. So this proves this isn't anything new and when we add up the fact like you said, that DirecTv is willing to start suspending discounts for long term customers to increase their profits: then I think it's pretty it's clear who is the problem here, no?
If it's come to a point where broadcasting is just not profitable for them any longer, then fold.

We were in the same boat with DirectTV and Nextstar. We switched to YouTubeTV and get all local stations and basically everything we were getting from Direct for 30% of what we had paid. We are extremely happy.

At least until YouTube goes through the same contract negotiation issue.

@tcort1234 If you are so happy with your new service why are you trolling around in the Directv Forum then. You just wait you may have all your locals now but wait for their next negotations and see what happens.

Re: the comment about "Nexstar not helping customers either." The OP is a DirecTV customer, not a Nextstar customer. The bill comes from DirecTV. DirecTV is a customer of Nexstar. If they can't work out a deal with them, that means that they are actually paying ZERO in carriage fees for their channels. This translates to a cost savings to DirecTV, and in turn a lower level of service to DirecTV's customers who lost Nexstar channels. Thus, DirecTV should be lowering the bills of those customers to pass on their own cost savings, compensating for the customers' loss of service. Do they do that? Of course not. Rather, they simply bank the extra profit and hope too many of those customers don't leave.

While you are correct, how long is Nextstar going to lose money and agree to the middle ground between the DTV offer and Nexstar's asking price and then DTV starts paying more for it. DTV is a satellite TV service so long as they are providing one channel there is no lose of service.

When that happens, you can bet another rate increase isn't far behind. They will always ensure they cover carriage fee increases, but do you ever see them lowering prices in the meantime when their costs are temporarily lowered?

Rate increases only happens at the beginning of the New Year and of coarse it has to cover the increase costs but it may not be as high as it could have been.

AFAIK it costs more money to return it, so any money saved is factored into the yearly price increase.
