New Directv menu functionality is a disaster

The recent update to Satellite Directv Service that changed the user access and menu functionality is terrible.   The effort, it appears, seems to be trying to make Directv user menu access look and function like an online streaming service.   The effort has failed.  Not only is it not streaming when tied to a satellite, it is mainly live TV,    Now instead of direct access to things like recorded shows, series recording, managing series recordings and other functions, you now have to go through multiple layers of menus instead of one "click" as in the past.   If I wanted to tap out a tune in clicks on the remote, I would rather just go to the piano.   That is not what I want to do on the Directv Remote.  I, like many others, want the old menu functionality back.   The truth is the Directv is now a marginally useful way to watch TV.  It's main attribute and value has been quick access to channels and easy show and series recording and recordings management.   Now much of that functionality has been compromised.   Who thought this was a good idea?

Hi, @Serviceuser. We're sorry you feel this way. DIRECTV is laying the foundation to present more personalized content and offer more aggregated subscription video on demand. Customers experience a Menu that closely aligns the Satellite Menu with the DIRECTV via Internet Menu. We're constantly improving our user interface to enhance the customer experience. We appreciate your feedback. 💙

How do we find the channel list?  Big pictures with no names or times are not useful in anyway. This is satellite tv including local channels. I want to be able to set my dvr to record stuff I want to watch.
I don’t stream much of anything because it is near impossible to find what to watch. There is no list.
How do we get the guide information back in the guide button?

Are there plans to reverse this change?  I am not able to find any of my recorded programs.  It is not intuitive at all and should really be scrapped.  At least give the option to use the old interface.  This new one is ridiculous.

Could not agree more - this new menu is absolute garbage. Why do I now have to click through a dozen layers and titles to get to my RECORDINGS LIST?  Terrible, just terrible

This new menu completely (Edited per community guidelines). Have to jump through all these hoops just to get to our recorded list. And I agree, they’re trying to make it look like a streaming service. If I wanted something that looked like a streaming service I would use a streaming service.

This is unexceptable. Paying almost $300 a month to now have to deal with this crap. I hope there are plans to give us a choice to switch it back. Though I highly doubt it.

I could not delete a recorded show that wasn;t complete. Only way is to play it to the end to delete it. Also, we used to be able to delete an entire series by highlighting and deleting. But NOW you have to highlight each episode and delete individually. This is really stupid since when I DVR a series for only "NEW" shows it DVRs old shows and entire series and unable to delete as a group. Who is the (Edited per community guidelines) that came up with this new system?

This update is ridiculous. Cannot delete an uncompleted show, Have to go to the end of the recording to delete. Also cannot delete entire series at once. You have to go in and select every episode and delete one by one. And the series that are only supposed to DVR "NEW" shows records old "not NEW" episodes which requires deletion which you now have to do one by one. It seems like every UPDATE you do is WORSE that the current platform.  Are you trying to lose customers?

I found that the nonsense menu is only the menu.  If you click the 'Guide' button the channel list is still there.  'List' button remains the list of your DRV recordings.  So lucky the search even returns a list.  The photos that only fit one or two to the screen with zero information are completely useless.

@hodgy03038 If you used search to setup the recordings then it is using the default setting of all channels, reruns and On Demand regardless of how you setup the DVR.  Only using the guide to select the program and pressing the record button twice to record the series.

@shannon02 I know how to record. It is HOW TO DELETE RECORDINGS that has changed. Did you actually read my post?

Your post stated it was recording programs you didn't want so if they are not recorded you don't need to delete them.

No you missed the point. The point is you cannot delete an entire group of recorded shows like we could before you have to go in to EACH EPISODE TO DELETE IT. I also said that we have certain shows we tape only NEW episodes but Directv records entire series of old shows that aren't new. Therefore when trying to delete we have to go in manually and delete one at a time which is stupid. Also there are shows that you watch and you want to delete before the ending of the show and that is not possible. You now have to watch or fast forward untl the end of the recording to delete. DIRECTV upgrades are always TWO STEPS back. It gets worse and worse.

Setting up a series recording using search is for binge watchers as it records all channels, On Demand and reruns where that program appears.  I get that deleting programs has changed.

Hi, @Serviceuser. Just a quick update: You can access the playlist by using the LIST button on the remote. Hope this helps! Lynie, DIRECTV Community Specialist
