issues with the CW

As a sat user it seems directv will never put the CW in HD?  With SD going away someday wouldnt they have to do this at some point?

Now On the flip side I can login to the Directv Stream and watch it, except its not available on the stream version even though its a sinclair station which i was told should be available?

I would think I could get 385 in HD as an option if they dont offer it in HD which I thought they had to?  Except 385 is not even a channel i can see in my guide let alone watch?

Hi @upperdeck, I know having local channels such as CW it's important for you. If you access here with your Zip Code, you'll be able to see all the local channels you have available https://streamtv.directv.com/channels/?tab=rsn?source=EDTZSr00000000qEL&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=att&utm_campaign=tas-redirect&utm_content=tv-locals We’ll send you a DM to further assist you. 2nd  why is the CW not available on the stream when the releases say CW for sinclair owned stations should be on the stream?

We do not currently have the rights to offer national CW network programming on your local CW station to our streaming-only customers because of the current dispute with Nexstar, which controls that CW programming. We have sent you a DM let's meet there to offer you further assistance about the picture quality of the CW channel. Haendel, DIRECTV Community Specialist

I also just had a chat with my local station manager.. He knows that they send a HD signal to Directv.. They then downgrade it to SD and send it out.  Directv support told me the opposite was happening that they were sending an SD signal to Directv.

@upperdeck

DirecTV is discontinuing the MPEG-2/SD-only feeds. They are not removing SD-only channels (yet). The MPEG-4 feed carries both SD and HD channels.

A channel not being in HD does not give you a different channel. There is no obligation that every channel you have be in HD. There is no law that entitles you to it in HD.

Either the feed from your local affiliate (Sinclair) of CW is not in HD or DirecTV doesn't have an agreement to carry the HD feed of it. Perhaps that will change during their next carriage negotiation, but no guarantee.

What I suspect you were alluding to, was the old Stelar Act. If there wasn't a local affiliate version of a local network channel where you lived, then you could qualify to have the national feed for that network. But the locals lobbied Congress to have that expire so now DirecTV is only permitted to provide you the local feed and only if they have an agreement for it.

the local station was told by Directv that even though they broadcast in HD and send them the HD signal they will not use it nor will they insert it into the Directv stream for the local people to watch,

There is a law that if the locals have a channel that they provide and Directv chooses to provide the signal yet the locals are unable to get the signal OTA that they have to provide the channel in a national feed.

This is why back in the day when you could not get the signals OTA that people got the e/w feeds for the national channels and you paid for each that you could not get OTA.  You had to get the waiver in some cases but they had to provide it.

the whole point is that Directv has an agreement to carry the local channel but has chosen on their own to provide an SD signal and the local channel complaints have fallen on deaf ears.
