How come DirecTV STILL hasn’t fixed the issue with recording the wrong channel for sporting events?

Say your team is playing against a team from another city.  You get the sports channel for your team but not that other city.  Which channel should your season pass record, the channel you get or the one you don’t?  If you said the wrong one, you’re probably one of the DirecTV programmers because clearly that’s what the system thinks.

Example:  tonight the Warriors we’re playing Cleveland, I have a season pass for the Warriors.  I turn on my TV after getting home and press the list button to watch the game. Well, I can’t watch the game because it recorded the Cleveland channel even though I don’t get that channel. It does this at least fifty percent of the time.  WHAT IS THE POINT OF LETTING US SELECT OUR FAVORITE TEAMS IF YOUR SYSTEM  STUPIDITY FORCES US TO DO IT MANUALLY?

This problem has been going on for years and many people complain about it.  Fix it.

Did you use the guide and press the record button twice on the sport channel and time of the Warriors game?

I have set the season pass to record many times over the years and this problem has always remained.  If the game is on two different networks, there’s a high chance it’ll record the one the user is NOT subscribed to rather than the correct one.  You literally have to go through the scheduled recordings and manually correct every game or just record them game by game which negates the purpose of the season pass.

All I know is I set up a series recording for the Dodgers using the guide and it has recorded only the correct channel and time but I still have to setup a recording when they are on Fox or ESPN.

You people really don’t seem to understand. This is an ongoing problem for many people.  That’s literally how I found this forum, because other people were complaining about the same thing.  If you set a team as your favorite team, it is supposed to record all the games, but instead of recording the correct broadcast, it records the wrong one. Game is on two channels, one blacked out and one that’s available.  It should never choose the blacked out one…ever.  It’s an EASY software fix, but they’re too lazy to fix it.

Yes!  Yes! Yes!  This is the absolute worst, we all have the same problem.  Usually, mine records both out of market for 0 min and my in market for the game.  But a few days ago, it started just recording the out of market for 0 min.

This has been happening all these years.  Seems like such a simple thing to prioritize for a corporation as large as att!  Makes me seriously consider alternative options to my $180 a month headache!

DVRs are a dumb machine when confronted with the guide metadata from several channels broadcasting the same game so it usually picks the lowest channel (the first in order).

Let me put it this way.  I went to get Fubo instead because of this issue.  Fubo does not have the issue (or I got lucky that it chose the channel I want).

I have been a satisfied customer in general of DirecTV Stream.  I can live with the fact that it is buggy.  Bugs happen.  In fact, a particular bug of Fubo's (long story) made me choose to stick with DirecTV Stream for now.  However, there are three issues that make we keep my eye out for alternatives.

1. This issue.

2. The lack of support for hotkeys in the browser.  It is the only browser video solution I've seen in a decade that doesn't support forward and back keys (and mute and play/pause, too).  No, the mouse isn't a valid substitute.  Yes, I was desperate enough that I programmed my keyboard to make it work, but it's a far cry from a real solution.

3. Sometimes I tune in to a recording and it puts me at the end, not the beginning.  For a sporting event, this is a horrible bug.

I am a software engineer.   I defer bugs every day because they are of lower importance.  So, take the input above in this spirit: it was a stroke of luck that I didn't leave over this issue.
