how can I watch a program that started 2 hours ago on a HR54 when it has been turned off
I would like to be able to use my HR54 to view shows like I could on my old HR23 without selecting record. I could be on any channel and turn it off for the day or a few hours, and when I turn it on the program was still available to back up the time and be able to watch it up to 1-1/2 hours after it started, as long as I did not change the channel?
To make a long story short, I would like to come home at 7:30 and be able to watch the 6:00 news from the start without selecting record every day, just be pushing the reverse button.
Thank you

The minis take any available tuner but not the buffer, so to do that you can't turn off the mini or the HR54 when watching it and leave it on the channel you want.

May not work consistently. The Genies work as a server, intending to feed those tuners to Mini Genie Clients for anything being watched or recorded. So that buffer can be interrupted. Less likely to happen if your other TVs are HDDVRs (up to HR24) as well, since they have dedicated tuners instead of stealing from the Genie.
But to come home from work, not a short spell, I would say set scheduled recording to get the news each day.

Hey @Ramnight. To rewind a program on HR54, do the following:
-Press GUIDE on your remote control.
-Select any show with a curved arrow.
-You'll see a prompt telling you to press the REWIND button to start the show at the beginning. Press it and enjoy!

Thank you for the reply, but it will only go back to the time that I turned the unit back on. Usually about 5 seconds when I push the rewind button.

Based on the link we shared, is the show you're trying to rewind on the list of Networks that offer it? Rhyan, DIRECTV Community Team

Hi Rhyan, I can be on CBS, NBS, USA, etc, and I only rewind the program to the time that I turned on the 54.
I was used to the HR23 that I was using for over 5 years that would record at least an hour and a half before I would turn it on matter what channel it was on. But if I changed the channel, it would be gone if I went back to it.

@Ramnight what you're wanting can't be done on a genie because it doesn't hold the buffer like a non genie hddvr does your hr23 keeps a buffer for about 2 hours as long as you don't change the channel. Directv help doesn't understand that

Nabukl, thank you for the reply. I am finding this out, so I will not worry about it. And just set the program to record if I will not be home in time to watch it.
