duplicate channels

why do I suddenly have multiples of some channels (NBC, WSLS, is listed 3 times, channel 10 and 2 for channel 12). Similar problem with CBS

There is likely a duplicate of channels because your receiver is set to show both the HD and SD versions of each channel. To fix this issue, press Menu, scroll down to Settings, press the right navigation button until you see Display, press select on Display, click on Preferences, and be sure that the Guide channels section has "Hide SD duplicates" rather than "Show all channels."

If you happen to have a non-Genie receiver, click Menu, scroll down to Settings & Help, click Settings, go down to Display and click select, select Preferences on the drop-down menu that appears, and make sure the Guide HD channels section is set to "Hide SD duplicates."

It is set to Hide SD duplicates, and the multiple channels still show.

Hi @roselanefarm, we want to help check on what's causing this.

To get started, please let us know if you have DIRECTV satellite or DIRECTV STREAM. We'll be here for you.

Suddenly seeing duplicate local stations on channels I didn’t have before. Like my usual channel 13 is also on channel 7. Channel 11 is also on channel 10. Another issue is some otjer channels can only be viewed in Low Resolution. Is there something I need to do?

I, too, am in Houston. I, too, am seeing duplicate channels, and my setting is already set to hide SD channels. I do not see any resolution to this problem posted on this thread. Is there a solution ?

@Pastrouhal the only temporary solution is making a Favorites list that does not include those duplicate channels. That way, anytime you go to the Guide, they won't show up there.

So this is happening in Houston, TX; Roanoke, VA and Little Rock, Ar. SD Duplicates are hidden. Does anyone at DIRECTV know the reason?

I don’t see an answer, just a suggestion to go to chat. What’s up?

A Direct Message/Private Message (DM/PM) is a private converstaion with the user. That means the rest of us don't get to see what they discuss. It really should only be used if it deals with something of a personal nature or account specific issue.

Are you having some sort of duplicate issue? If so, please explain exactly what problem you are having and include the models of your boxes.

I used to have local channels - 2(NBC), 6(CBS), 8(ABC), and 23(FOX).

now I have

2 and 4, both NBC, both KJRH

6 and 9, both CBS, both KOTV

8 and 5, both ABC, both KTUL

23 and 24, both FOX, both KOKI

both versions appear to be HD

This showed up a few months ago. I verified that I have SD channels blocked from my Guide list. Even reset it to show only SD, only HD, both times it worked(QVC has both).  But the above duplicates show up no matter the setting.

The channels have the same network and local affiliate name, but different channel numbers. Is the programming on the channel and in the guide the same between each set of duplicates?

What is your zip code and county? That will determine the Designated Market Area (DMA) you are in. Helps to see if the issue is in the market itself.

You would be blocking SD Duplicates in the guide, not SD channels all together. Many channels have both an SD and HD broadcast, but that would be the same channel number so people who finally got HD didn't have to learn a new set of numbers (unlike some other carriers who have a different range for their SD and HD channels). There are a few channels that don't have both an SD and HD version, so "Hide HD Channels" would remove a few from the guide but "Hide SD Duplicates" just means the same channel number doesn't show twice (i.e. Channel 245 TNT and 245 TNTHD).

Simply put you cannot set it to show only HD as some channels don't have an HD version. You simply make sure that a channel number doesn't show twice if it has both SD and HD versions. Your issue is two different channel numbers seeming to have the same programming.

What are the models of each box you have?

Do each have the issue?

Verify coax is finger tight to each box.

Red button reset each box one at a time (complete one before moving to next).

Preferred order in general: Genie > WVB > Mini Genie > HDDVR > HD non-DVR
