Hi, @deb2stretch. Good question. You can delete recordings by following these steps:
- Press the LIST button
- Highlight the program to delete, press the RED button
- Select Delete Now, press SELECT
Thank you for choosing DIRECTV. John, DIRECTV Community Specialist

I'm subscriber to satellite, but with a new roof, I no longer have the satellite antenna and only one DVR stored in a drawer, as it doesn't work without a satellite and DirecTv requires me to keep. I use the app on several Roku devices throughout the house. There is no option to delete recordings from the Roku app, from the DirecTv mobile app, or from the DirecTv website. How is that possible? What's going to happen once the DVR get full?

@sontherocks
Have you called DIRECTV yet for a new dish installation? DIRECTV is service by satellite and requires a satellite dish in order for the DVR to be used as you have recently noted.
As far as the app not deleting recordings, it won't be able to because the DVR is not connected to the satellite dish nor the Internet.

Yes, I have. But I don’t want to open holes on a new expensive roof. I don’t want a dish anymore.
I guess I’m stuck with no options but to limit my recordings to prevent from having its memory depleted.
i hope DirecTv engineers come up with a solution soon. I’ve seen lots of similar cases in different forums
If anyone comes up with a solution, I’ll appreciate you post it here. Thanks!

DTV can install a dish on a pole in the yard, on a sled mount on a flat surface or under the eves.

Thanks guys. DirecTv stream does not have the current “grandfathered” plan I’ve had for years. Switching will require a new 2-year contract, direct billing (which I hate), and the similar plan to the one I have is more expensive. That was my original plan until I was informed of the above and a CSR from DirecTv suggested what I currently have/do; keep your plan without a dish using the app.
For the option of installing a pole in the backyard for the satellite, I thought about it but it wouldn’t look good. I’m a very picky person and the OCD in me immediately said no to that option.

You can get a DirecTV Stream "bring your own device" with no 2-yr contract.

You are not using the hard drive on a DVR that is not connected to a dish so you can't delete them.

You are required to keep the box as long as you have DirecTV because that is how the service is delivered. Receiving dish to your receiver/HDDVR.
Using the app is accessing limited content. You cannot ever delete from the app. Must be from the box itself. And if the DVR is not connected to anything, then the app isn't using anything on the DVR as there is nothing to transfer info. You are using limited service authorized on the internet only.
Either get a pole/sled mount to install the dish on or put it on the roof as expected. Otherwise call and cancel your service if you will never use satellite again and return the box.
DIRECTV STREAM is a separate service that is Bring Your Own Device (BYOD). There is no required equipment they provide, as you are providing that yourself. Use whatever you prefer, Roku, Firestick, etc. as long as it is compatible. Just make sure it is not DirecTV via Internet as that requires you to have a 'leased' version of their Gemini box as the billing/service model is similar to the traditional satellite service.
