Closed Caption fonts
Hello! I prefer using the Caslon font for my Closed Captioning and all my TV's have the same CC settings. However on one of my TV's (the one with the main unit) it now is displaying the CC text as Kaufmann Bold even though the setting is Caslon. On this TV it also does not preview the font in its own typeface, are the font listings are the same type of text. Is there some sort of way to reset? I've tried the red button restart. Sorry if I am not using all the correct technical terms.

DirecTV boxes don't have any settings to change the CC font. Check your TV's manual if it's your TV that's processing the CC info.

Hi, @schubertmrg. Thank you for reaching us about this. Could you tell me the model number of the device connected to your TV?

I hope this is going to @DIRECTVhelp. Thanks for your response to my question above re: close captioning fonts. The DirectTV unit I have having the issue with is Genie Gen 2, Model HR44-700.

Thank you for providing us with that information. Please see your private note, so we can take a closer look at what is happening with the CC with the TV with the main unit. Jhonny, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Not sure why Jhonny (@DIRECTVhelp ) wants to take this question private. The simple answer is that DirecTV boxes do not have settings to change Closed Caption fonts.

Thanks @litzdog911...but my Sony TV tells me that the Digital CC messages are set to as broadcast. So how can that be a TV setting? What am I missing? My other option is to create a custom setting (size/color/etc) but that did not override what I was getting from Directv. No problems when getting CC in analog.
And @DIRECTVhelp , I do not see any private message. where would that be?

That's right. It's working normally. The DirecTV "digital" captions are provided by the DirecTV box connected to your TV and are not adjustable by the TV's CC settings. Bottom line .... You can't change them.

My HR24 does have a CC font setting that can be changed and Caslon is listed. Menu>Settings & Help>Settings>Display>Captioning>Font.

Thanks @shannon02 , but that's not my issue. I have the same font setting menu...but on one of my TV's the Caslon font shows as Kaufmann Bold and I can not get it to change back to Caslon even after resetting.

You can try to do these steps regarding your closed caption issue :
- Press MENU button
- Select "Settings," press SELECT
- Choose the Font option, press SELECT
If this doesn't work, please check your inbox as we've sent you a DM to further check other options. We appreciate your input @litzdog911 and @shannon02.

Have you tried a red button reset of both the mini/receiver and the HR44?

You can try a search for clearmybox that will dump the guide data and other things and it will take a day or 2 to rebuild, anything set to record will.
