OK, it turned out the HR44 was bad. Replaced with HR54.
Thanks for the help!

Is the HDMI cable connected to the TV? Those services use your internet so has nothing to do with getting DTV sat service.

If by regular you mean Directv channels, make sure your tv is on the correct input for directv and that the hdmi cable is connected

Yes, the HDMI cord is working and is connected to the HDMI 1 slot. Input is on HDMI 1, so all should be correct.
It still appears to be a faulty HR44-500 Directive box. Don't know how to check that except for rebooting with tiny 'red' button and reinserting the working card.
Is the newer HR54 box something I should get?!

If resetting the HR44 doesn't fix it, then it's likely defective. Do any lights come on while it's resetting?
Call DirecTV and request a replacement. Phone number below. Most likely you'll get an HR54.

Yup, reset many times to check. Didn't work.
Have service person coming out in two days.
Is the HR54 any "better" ?

The HR54 is newer. It can also deliver 4K channels to compatible Mini Genie client boxes. Otherwise, not much different.

There is no need for a tech as DTV can ship a replacement for $20.

If HR44 needs to be warranty replaced there is no need for tech. Delivery of box is $19.95 but service call is $99. Tech should only be sent if there are problems beyond the box.
Likely you would get an HR54, but not a guarantee. You will not get 4K without a proper 4K upgrade as requires specific other boxes and TV compatibility with tech install. No other reason to desire specifically an HR54.
