U-Verse TV Red X

Today when I turned on my TV I have a red X on my screen. I have the Uverse support app and I used it to go through diagnostics and I also rebooted my home gateway multiple times and unplugged my reciever multiple times as well. The support app attempted to send a number to appear on my TV and that did not work, still only red X. I also called support and they tried a few things and were unable to help me. They told me that they think I will just need to get a replacement box, which will cause me to lose all of my DVR programs.

I am coming here to see if there are any other options that can be tried so that I dont have to lose all my programs.

I have a black Motorola DVR box. The link light is solid green. All the lights on my Gateway appear normal.

Yes, correct, a new box will mean a loss of data.

Do you hear any clicking noises coming from the DVR?  And how is the DVR connected to the gateway?

What I would do is to direct connect an Ethernet cable between the DVR and the gateway, one of the yellow ports.  Cold start the gateway and once the it’s fully restarted, plug and unplug the DVR three time spaced by a few seconds and then let it boot up.   You should see a gray gear with a progress indicator.   This will take some time so be patient.  If the box is still good you should eventually see the Uverse logo.

Thanks. Pretty sure I've done that a few times. I can try it again though. The gateway and the DVR are connected already by an ethernet cable to the yellow port.

Ive tried the plugging and unplugging quickly like that about a hundred times. Ive also done it right after rebooting the gateway. I'll try it all again though.

So I just moved everything out of the way and pulled the box out so I could see the back of it better. Then I unplugged the box and plugged it back in and it seemed like it wriggled around a bit on the inside of where the power plugs in, and once i wriggled it around the gear/loading screen came up. So its doing the loading now.

Sounds like we're making progress, @wpascarelli

Please let us know if it comes back on!

If it doesn't, we can look into swapping out your equipment.
