U-verse Receivers

How many receivers are included with the U-Family package? Thank you!

Found a super old PDF file:

AT&T U-verse TV U200, with more than 190 of the most popular channels, including news, movies,
and children’s and family entertainment, plus local channels and 34 digital music channels.
Includes up to three U-verse Receivers, one with a DVR

@skeeterintexas I don't think that's what OP meant by "includes".  I think they mean includes for free.

I belive even the u family included the dvr.  I know at 1 point the base plan whatever it was called didn't the dvr.  All other receivers are charged monthly unless you have an old promotion locked in and in writing lol.

OP should also note unless they are already a uverse tv customer att no longer sells uverse.

Each Uverse package included one receiver…

on Ubasic the free unit is a stand receiver, to have a DVR was extra $15 per month beyond the free receiver.

All other packages had a FREE DVR with each receiver beyond the DVR was $10 per month per receiver.

At various times AT&T offered bundle deals where extra receiver may be free for 12 months, or rare free until package or equipment was changed out… meaning swapping the receiver would then start the monthly charge.

Ufamily would have been one DVR with SD channels, upgrading to HD was extra $10 per month along with extra receivers being $10 each… pricing from 2015.

At one point, my extra receiver started at something like $6 or $7 month. Obviously, it's gone up.

Now, I get two extra receivers for $0/mo. I've also made occasional changes at no cost.

It could be because I "early adopted" back in 2008 back when 2HD/2SD was the norm OR it could be because AT&T took pity on all the tech problems I had...things like background pixelation during basketball/hockey games...couldn't get "on demand" on second receiver due to crappy coax, etc.

Is the DVR really "free" though? At one point, Time Warner claimed they had "free" HD, but were forced to change their advertising.

Services like satellite charge for HD, but include the box with the service.

Time Warner was the opposite. They charged out the schnoz for a DVR (standard box rental fee plus DVR fee) but the HD is included in the base TV price.

Before I had U-Verse, I had a standard-def cable box. I was getting discount on it. When I upgraded to digital, the discount went away. I think my HD box via Time Warner (2007-2008) was even more.

Yea I received free receivers from customer retention at times, and also had 2 free wireless receivers, because at&t figured it was easier than solving/replacing my coax cabling issues with cat5.  The discounts lasted through equipment swaps, until recently when at&t changed their policy to eliminate discounts if guid's change.  Basically the only way I could get discount back they said was if I could find documentation proving I was promised free boxes for life, but of course at&t hates putting things in writing.  Interestingly when I had a huge problem with scheduled recordings no longer functioning at&t corporate tried to tell me that u-verse never promised dvr recording and that was just them being nice.  Since then I save pictures of every advertisement/promise/lie for future use in case that ever pull that (Edited per community guidelines) again.  Also interestingly I'm not even sure the terms and service for u-verse tv currently are legally enforceable, there is a section about them not being required to actually provide any tv service and yet customer still being required to pay.  I can't imagine a company could literally not provide a service for months and then attempt to collect payment for provided said service and that somehow being legal.   My guess is since customer service always provides credits for outages they've never actually tested that contract in court.

Also they probably never used the word free they probably said "included" to avoid issues.  U-verse also at the beginning charged extra for HD but they got rid of it.

Hopefully I didn't use any banned words in this reply lol.

Yes and no. The plans changed and I *think* part of that was an increase. Essentially, what they did...I think...was raise prices and give everyone the HD.

My bill still has the $10 HD fee. Other bills may not, but they'd pay the same price.

...I think that's how it works.

I got you beat.  We started with Uverse TV in 2007.  it was 3SD/1HD and we fought over who got to watch the 1 HD stream!  😆😆😆

Of course, you and the legendary @Texasguy37 are/were in Texas where you also would have had certain features first.

Yes, if you ordered prior to a certain date around 8 years ago, your versions of U-200/U-300 do not include HD, but you can get it by adding it for $10/month.  If you ordered past that date, then your version of U-200/U-300 do include HD, but you're paying an additional $10/month for each of those that the previous group do not pay.  [ If you have U-450, then you have HD either way. ] On the date mentioned above, the site was changed to show that the packages include HD, even though that was only true for new customers.  Apparently the CSRs cannot easily tell which category of customer you are so they cannot properly help older customers understand why they don't have HD when the website says they do.

My bill for U-200 , Internet-50 and home phone is $192 with taxes in Michigan. We get free internet through the State because we are low-income.

The monthly bill used to be around $139 just a couple years ago in 2020/2021.

Back in the Fall 2022, an ATT retentions rep promised me an ongoing bill of $149 for 2-years , with the option to renew after the first year if the bill goes up.

She even said ATT was getting away from promotions and moving away from having their loyal customers call in every few months for the best price, so she offered to set my ongoing future bills to $149 including tax.

She never documented any of this, and of course this never materialized as there was never any documentation. I was unsuccessful getting retentions to honor it, so now I'm paying $192 with tax.

That's pretty nasty to promise one thing and then claim it was never said.
