Using remote thru cabinet door

As I understand it, my uverse tv remote is a radio frequency remote. My controller is in a tv cabinet. Remote only works with the door open. Thought a radio frequency remote would work thru it. Do I need a radio frequency booster of some sort? Thanks

The standard U-verse TV remotes are not RF, but IR.  There was an RF version available for purchase for a while, but it was a remote/USB-stick pair that communicated via RF to the USB-stick plugged in to the set top, and that rebroadcast the IR to the box.  I do not believe that it has been offered for sale for some time.

There was also the option of using a smartphone app for a while, but I think that functionality has been deprecated.

I believe the "remote via smartphone app" was part of the previous U-Verse app and went away when this horrible app was implemented.

Scrolling is still like walking on ice and VERY sensitive.

I'm lucky to be able to delete recorded shows. When I can, I'm only able to delete one before the "recorded shows" list disappears.

I've given up trying to watch live TV on it.
