Some recorded shows are choppy. Always the same show.

Hey all,

This ONLY happens with recorded versions of the show CHOPPED from the Food Network.

If I watch it live, it's fine and all other shows, recorded or otherwise, Are fine.

When I play a recorded show of CHOPPED, ever few seconds, when the scene changes, the video is choppy - as if there's a reduced frame rate. It only happens during a scene change. It lasts for about one second.

It drives us nuts. I just got a new dvr, and it's doing the exact same thing still.

Thanks,

Matt!

The show is called CHOPPED, right?  And you're complaining that it (and only it) is CHOPPY?

Lol, I KNEW someone was gonna say that....

In all honesty, however, the issue Is driving me crazy. Anyone experienced anything similar?

Is your TV connected to the Receiver by HDMI cable or component cable?  Have you ever tried component?  I'm wondering if something about the switches is causing renegotiation.

Yes... HDMI through a nice Marantz receiver with HDMI switching.... I haven't had issues with other components, but perhaps it's a fault in the dvr and processing. I'll try a different HDMI cable, and if it still does it, I'll try downgrading to component. At least I'll know if that's the problem now.

It's so odd though, it's ONLY when the scene changes in the show. Nowhere else...

I thought I might record a show to see if I have the same problem, so  I did a search & found a lot of on-demand. Playing an on-demand show I did not see any choppyness.

Might be interesting to see if you see the same problem with on-demand as you do with live.

You could also temporarily connect to see if connecting the HDMI directly from the TV Receiver to the TV (bypassing the Marantz), though I'm not sure what that test tells us.

Thanks for all of the assistance so far, guys.... I'll run some tests in a few hours here...

I noticed it during a completely different show today as well.... Ugh...

Here's a quick clip where the stuttering happens twice.

We're here to help you get back to enjoying your shows, Ella1951!

So that we can get up to speed on what's occurring, please let us know the following:

  • Were you able to try any of the previous troubleshooting options mentioned in this thread? This will help us know where to start with troubleshooting your experience.
  • Are you also having choppy recordings, but only from specific channels? Knowing if you are experiencing the same thing as the original poster of the thread will help us determine what might be happening.

In the meantime, we suggest creating your own forum thread, as this one is many years old and subject to being closed at any time.

We hope to hear back from you!

Thanks for providing that information, @Ella1951.

To further assist you with your recordings, we recommend that you follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue:

  1. Press Menu on your U-verse TV remote control.
  2. Use the arrow keys and scroll down to Help, then press OK.
  3. Scroll down to Information and press OK.
  4. Scroll right and select Troubleshoot & Resolve.
  5. Select TV from the top menu.
  6. Choose DVR and follow the prompts.

Choppy recordings can often be fixed just by troubleshooting your U-Verse service. Let us know if you have any other questions or concerns!
