Rebooted to get to the gear screen and then the red X 1 appears. My apartment had power failure which may have caused this, but is there any way to retrieve recordings from the device before hard reset?

I would suggest a "whole home reboot": Unplug all the AT&T Gear, then plug in each of these and let them boot up before proceeding to the next step, in this order:
