recycling Uverse equipment
I changed from Uverse TV to Direct TV streaming. I got an email telling me to recycle the Uverse eqipment rather than returning it. I was directed to att.net/recycle for instructions, but I don't see any information there. Should I return it to an AT&T store, dispose of it however I can, or ship it somewhere else?

AT&T seems to send conflicting information. Here's what I'd do:
Return the equipment (except the gateway) to any UPS or FedEx store. Take your information telling you to return it.
If the employee at UPS or FedEx tells you they don't want it, show the email.
You may have to try 2-3 locations before you get someone wanting to accept it.
Keep ahold of the receipt with confirmation number and put it in a safe place.
If you try a few locations and nobody wants the stuff, put it in a closet.
Do not recycle it even if you get notifications telling you to. There's a chance you could be assessed a penalty if you don't return it.
Yes, it's a hot mess. We ACEs know it is. However, there's nothing we can do other than tell you the above information.

Thanks. I think I am going to take the equipment to a local AT&T store. I will let them deal with it

It's highly doubtful that they will accept any UverseTV equipment. Good luck.

It's always been my understanding that the AT&T stores typically just deal with mobile phones.

Att stores even corporate owned stores will not accept any equipment they won't touch it with a 10foot pole. I've never had any problem with ups or fedex rejecting uverse equipment. Just give them your att account # and they'll package it up for you. Just make sure you document with pics dropping it off and save tracking number receipt preferably the copy that lists contents of return.
