Receiver fee
Hi , one of our 2 receivers was no longer working and they sent us a new one . I am now being charged an additional $10 a month. This charge was never there before . They told me that I could recycle the old one and that I didn’t need to turn it back in. I called and they said the replacement receiver is a new configuration which is why it is now $10. We are already paying a lot more for U Verse TV than we were previously. Any advice to get this charge off my bill.

You can’t get it off your bill.

Wait... how many receivers did you have before this "swap" and how many do you have now?
How many (total) receivers are you being charged for?
Normally the first (the DVR) is included in service, but each additional receiver should carry a $10/month charge.

That's odd.
I'm grandfathered in from years ago with all sorts of promotions. As a result, I can only speak for me, but my two extra receivers have no additional fee.
I'm guessing you may have had a similar promotion, but something hit a snag when you were told not to return your old receiver.
Since U-Verse is no longer accepting new customers, the AT&T computers seem to be confused if customers should return or recycle equipment.
I wonder if...and I'm not sure the best way to state this...one computer system says "don't return the equipment" and as a result, a different system never saw that old equipment scanned in.
As a result, some system now thinks you have three receivers.
It's just a wild guess.
@JefferMC -- This might be a case for the OOP.

This happened to me as well. They no longer respect the promises of discounted/free receiver promotions so if you get it replaced and it was free they now charge you, unless you can find the original paperwork from 10+ years ago and prove it in writing.
NEVER recycle anything it's a lie and a trap (see other posts on this forum for info). Always return all equipment or you will be CHARGED. Nothing has changed on uverse equipment, that's also misinformation/lie. In fact they stopped buying new equipment circa 2016 and all equipment is refurbished since then.
While you can't get the free receiver promotion back... call customer retention tell them your story and see if there is something else they can do. Often they can magically find you another promotion to knock at least something off your bill. (it's amazing how they'll tell you there's no way you can get anymore promotions and you already have all available promotions until they mess up really really bad and are super incompetent and then suddenly a new representative will magically find a discount to get you off the phone.
If you already recycled receiver also show them mail/email saying to recycle and try to get customer retention/loyalty to take it off bill... but be warned it will be an uphill battle.

Please check your previous bill if you were being charged or not for the receiver and also if that's an upgrade to a wireless receiver than there is a one time charge not each month, also all depends upon your service plan. please check with billing or compare your old bills.
