Problem with Remote for Uverse

I wonder if anyone has experienced this problem with remotes for Uverse. My remotes for all TV's initially do not work after I turn on the TV. A minute or two later, and after many frutstatrating tries, the remotes start to work. At first the remotes operate sporadically, but by a few minutes later, the remotes are performing as designed. I have the problem with more than one remote for more than one TV, so I've concluded the issue isn't the remote itself, but I don't know what it is. The remote I'm using (S30-S1B) is not available for replacement by AT&T, but it apparently wouldn't help to replace it anyway since the remote doesn't appear to be the issue. Thoughts on this?

I have the exact same problem but my remote is a S30-S1A.  It’s been doing this for more than a year  It’s so frustrating I’m about to drop Uverse for YouTube TV.

I know when I first got U-verse TV, I had issues with the IR sensor on the Set Top having issues dealing with light coming from the TV.  Eventually I was able to tune the settings on the TV such that it no longer caused an issue.  15 years ago, this was a fairly reasonably well known phenomenon and you could find posts in this forum for it.  Now... um... I'm not sure how to guide you on what settings might make a difference.

You could at least try to see if this is the issue:

  • Does it get better when you're holding the remote closer to the box?
  • Try using something (poster board, towel, blanket) to block external light from reaching the TV Receiver and allowing only the IR remote to get to it and see if the problem is better.
