Paid For Equipment
I guess I just don't understand why I'm being asked told to return the Directv box that we've had for years and should be paid for and ours by now? why am I "required" to return it???

This is the AT&T forum for Directv you would need to post at https://forums.directv.com/. Also, even though you have had your Directv equipment for years does not make you the owner of the equipment unless you paid for the equipment outright when your service was installed. If not then it belongs to Directv and you would need to send it back to them or pay them the fee that they will charge you unless it is returned. I would recommend sending it back ASAP as they do not like to wait and will charge you if it is not sent back in the time frame they gave you. Hope this helps.

Understood. hey thanks for clearing that up for me, though I'm quite sure they told my wife and I when we got the updated box, that after 2 or 3 years, I can't remember, we would own it, but...I guess even they've forgotten that, so...oh well, on biggie, will just send it back.

Cannot answer for DirecTv but for Uverse IPTV receivers, $10 per month per receiver is a rental charge not an installment payment plan. If have equipment for 5 years would be ($10*12 months * 5 years) or $600 per receiver.
Failure to return Uverse equipment is $150 in addition to the monthly rental charges have paid for.
DirecTv Stream you buy the equipment up front, $120 per receiver.

Any further questions about DirecTV equipment should be made on the DirecTV Forum (link above).
